With Death Of A Spaceman part of the intended mechanics of the game in development and on the way with Medic mechanics coming in (we are not immortal and can't just respawn over and over, there will be a limit at which point we die and pass our crap off to next-of-kin) it's handy to see what direction we are going in regards the Big Sleep:

It also helps there is a cheeky TEST reference in there too! :-D

Imagine a bold explorer flying themselves directly into the sun or some friendly outlaws firing a Size 9 torp directly at your head. What ambulance is going to rescue you from that?

I've now read the article, very nice to see the reference to Quantum Entanglement - the Persistence Of Memory was something that didn't add up when we first started talking about cloning as a way to extend a players life in the game:

If you fly off and discover a lost planet or even a new sector no one knows about but are killed before returning to document your find how are you going to know about where that is? You as the player still know it is there but in the reality of the 'Verse there is no link to that knowledge and your ability to then go find it again. That really put a plot hole in the cloning thing.

I bought that up previously in a post in this thread (direct link, takes you to the page does not new tab 😕 ) and mentioned Quantum Entanglement as a potential solution:

It is pointed out in the Lore post that it's all a work in progress, and perhaps a better idea will come along eventually, but the Quantum Entanglement thing is very cool to see having been come to by the Lore Team independent of my post/s here on TEST :-) I'm sure other players on Spectrum etc must have come to the same conclusion too.

It being scavenged Vandu'ul tech also makes sense - Having the UEE have a magic respawn ability and their main protagonist not, would make it a battle of attrition if one side had it and the other didn't. Just throw regenerative bodies at the foe until there aren't any of them left.

I appreciate the physical limitation on cloning where it mentions "Attempts at using imprints while the source is still alive have all resulted in failure." but having laws made limiting cloning feels like the option for multiple bodies and agent-smithing is being left open?

Second!

It definately takes the 'Verse a little beyond the 20th century in the 29th century feel (I expect space whales to do this too) and puts something in the game that is a little bit Arthur C. Clark with technology that is so advanced as to be indestinguishable from magic...

But yes some suspension of disbelief to be seen there, and as they even admit it's an evolving concept built on the requirements of the games design... but then they do say necessity is the mother of invention...

It's just occured to me, a sphere that regenerates people. I've seen something like that in the 'Verse before...

...those big red balls with 'Replace Me' written on them whenever the model of something isn't available or dooesnt spawn...

I'd like to think that's a reference rather than coincidence! :-D

Indeed, it does make it challenging to make lore and an explanation to rationalize a gameplay necessity. Honestly, I think if they took a page out of altered carbon with Needlecast and DHF backups it would work easier. Then the reason why you could only clone/transfer so many times is also rationalized.
