What's up guys? Montoya and I were just discussing CitizenCon and a more or less coordinated look and promotional effort from the TEST members representing us there. I will be there wearing my yellow TEST shirt (stands out more in a crowd) so if you have a black of yellow test shirt please wear that. If you don't have a TEST shirt that is not a problem, it is by no means a requirement. Also we're looking for ideas to promote TEST in a positive light during the event, so let us know if you have any ideas.
It might also be a good idea to have a place to meet up before the event, I'm from the other side of the world from Manchester, so if you know a good place to meet near the airport feel free to make a suggestion.

Where to meet will depend if people wanted to meet close to the venue or in Manchester City Centre. According to google there arent that many pubs outside of the airport itself and close to the venue, though there may be some bars in the hotels.

The closest pub to the venue is as below:

-----
Romper
  • 3.915 Google reviews
  • Pub
Address: Wilmslow Old Rd, Altrincham, Cheshire WA15 8XJ, United Kingdom
  • Phone:+44 161 903 9473
    Hours:

    Monday 10:00 am – 11:00 pm
    Tuesday 10:00 am – 11:00 pm
    Wednesday 10:00 am – 11:00 pm
    Thursday 10:00 am – 11:00 pm
    Friday 10:00 am – 11:00 pm
    Saturday 9:00 am – 11:00 pm
    Sunday 9:00 am – 10:30 pm
A no-nonsense chain pub with a menu of traditional British dishes and a family-friendly vibe.
----

Not sure if we may be a bit too raucous for this no-nonsense, family friendly establishment, so if anyone has other suggestions feel free.

I'm planning on putting together a guide to nice places to go in Manchester, but I've not finished *cough*started*cough* it yet, but you have a few alternatives.

1. Get a taxi or public transport to/from the centre. Trains to the airport are pretty good, but they're not 24 hours, though the gap overnight may not be a problem. I've added some screengrabs of the times of trains on Friday night/Saturday morning from Manchester Piccadilly station to the airport, look up more using the link I provided. A taxi will set you back about £20 (not sure if Uber pick up as far out as Altringham, provided for a baseline only, there are other taxi companies you can use). Black cabs cost more than booked over the phone cabs.

The advantage of this is that there are many nice bars and restaurants in Manchester, many of which are open pretty late.

2. Go to the closest pub to the airport.

Very convenient. However, I have never been to any of these, but I'd guess that they're going to be pretty ropey, especially the food. If anyone has experience here correct me.

3. Go to Altringham. It's one of the towns close by that isn't appalling. It's going to have a few bars and decent bar/restaurants, but may be pricey? It's a sort of "posh" suburb (a load of footballers used to live there). You might find somewhere there that is open a bit later if that's your thing, but I don't know, I've only been once for an hour or so.

Hmm, there are a few of us staying in the city itself. In my opinion it makes more sense for us all to meet around the airport, rather than make those staying in the airport hotel come to the city THEN go back to the airport for the CitizenCon event =P

The advantage of everyone meeting in the centre is that it's actually quite nice in parts, there are decent pubs and bars and some really nice food selections so that might be a reason people want to head in.

It does mean the (I assume) majority of people have to make the round trip rather than the other way round though, and it's going to be totally inconvenient for people flying in late (though if the bar is already closed this might be moot).

Anyway, I just gave some options, I'll try and pop along wherever you go so you all just decide what you want to do :)
