Why is that? I mean come on, we are all adults here. Why does the chat and forum have to be SFW? I get that you don't want porn spam or something similar, but I feel a bit patronized. Don't get me wrong, I will not break any rule (at least intentional), but maybe you can help me to understand it.

I'm used to the internet by now, but I think it might be because some of us do view the forums from work, I mean I do. That being said, I think that there can be a smart way of doing things. For example, say you want to post a humorous gif or image of bouncing boobs, instead of inserting an image into your post, just link the url with a nice [NSFW] tag in front of the link. However, I think that that would be more of a time and place type of thing where just posting that without any context to the discussion at hand would just be stupid and immature.
I think that its important for the community to be a mature place that dabbles in immature content on occasion, not the other way around. I also think that our forums and RSI chat being a more "public" place, we should conduct ourselves in a light that doesn't push people away because we portray an immature attitude. Right now, anyone can see the majority of the forums without having to jump through an EVE-style background check where they want to know your 3rd cousin's second husband's account API because god forbid he was in that 10 man corp that sold some minerals to BoB 8 years ago.
Don't get me wrong, some of us talk like sailors (hell, @Barthanes is a sailor), myself included, but I feel that's a little different than going into "dude, check out these tits" and cue Beavis and Butthead laugh. Good answer. I am totally ok with not mindlessly posting gifs of boobs or other sexual content without a proper NSFW tag, my concern is mostly in regards to language. I feel like I should be able to say fuck in a forum or a chat. Being at work, in my opinion, is no valid reason not to. If you can hang around in a chat all day at work, you should not have a problem with someone using curse words. We (almost?) all are here because we met on Reddit somehow and you don't see anyone there holding back on language.

I fucking never say fuck. Seriously tho, I only hold back when I am made aware that I'm over someone's speakers and their young daughter/son is in the room. Then I keep my filthy mouth shut.

Just because you're okay with swears/nsfw content, does not mean everybody is. Sure...the majority of our members are laid back and don't think twice about swearing. However, you need to realize that this is a large community with all sorts of people in it.
We have parents with children, we have younger members, people who don't like swearing, women, men, cousins, uncles, pirates, spacemen, military, LGBTQ, priests, drunks, and everything in between. You need to be aware of the community as a whole.
Swearing is generally fine in chat...to an extent. We ask that you use your judgement and don't get out of line. Anything outside of "casual swearing", i.e. anything vulgar, offensive, or racist, is not tolerated at all.
It's more-so accepted in chat than in TeamSpeak. Mostly because a text-based chat is easier to keep down than audio. Not everybody uses headphones. It certainly wouldn't be good if you're dropping f-bombs all day when Montoya's kids walk by and hear you.

-Okay: Casual swearing, to an extent.
-Not-Okay: Vulgar swears, racist/offensive comments. Porn. Getting out of hand on teamspeak.

you answered my question which was about casual swearing and not posting pics of JL getting it in the rear. I was using a casula swear in chat which led to a 'don't do that please' which was the reason for my concern, but I think that was just a misunderstanding on my side.. What you say makes perfectly sense.

It all depends on the context of the chat and what was going on. Since I was not there, I can't give a full assessment of the situation.
If a staff member or fellow moderator asks you to keep the swearing down...I trust their judgement in the situation. We want our chat to be a comfortable place for everybody to hang out in.
If you have chat log files, feel free to PM them to me and I can give a look at what was going on. Or if you know the data & time, I can search through my log files to find it. (Assuming you're talking about the RSI chat).
No worries, it absolutely wasn't big of a deal. I just wanted know the rule to avoid to make the same mistake.
