Hey chaps,

I recorded a video to display some few simple commands in Arena Commander that I have configured today. I believe its a lot simpler than mashing the keyboard during dogfights. It's early days, I'm going to add a bunch new commands like decouple, boost and throttle etc and see how things go!

I am using Voice attack : http://www.voiceattack.com here are the key binds I have set up so far: (link is dead)

I have to run the application as administrator to enable it to work correctly.

Here is a video of it in action:

http://www.twitch.tv/lord_krunk/c/4400406

EDIT: I don't know why the Mega link died: here is a replacementhttps://mega.co.nz/#!rEhDhSpY!uaTf2tipYsOe445H43gMMQWT9a3895yhSiN-3Ch5HzY
I am going to be working on finetuning the voice commands and adding more commands in future! But this is a valuable resource that will definitely give us an edge.

This is so awesome ^
I couldn't load your video so here's another I found, which may or may not be you. Either way it's the future of all things space combat.

We should post up profiles so others can cavenge them; it's one of the best ways to get new commands.
For example, my own profile uses power management commands that I blatantly copied from some dude on the RSI forums.

Well, good luck. I can't say I understand why you're doing it though. The controls aren't difficult, and fingers type much, much faster than is physically possible to speak.

This seems more like a handicap than anything else. Unless you have short, 1 syllable code words to replace the actual words. Saying "decouple" is much slower than tapping and releasing the caps lock key in a tenth of a second.

EDIT: ah, now I see! You can manipulate the in flight computer with it! THAT is useful. I never could figure out how to manipulate that very well. However, it's relatively useless for basic commands that can be done with a single button press.

Definitely. Like I said, I use mine for power management. I also use it for shield management and a couple other things that are hard to do with the gamepad, like pinning targets to the hud, cycling countermeasure types, and toggling lights.

This seems great for power management... Its rather clunky as stated previously. I for the life of me dont understand the eject keyword being used for eject... Seems like a horrible idea ;)

So after reading this, I decided to trial Voice Attack. I must say I'm not impressed. I've run through the recommended computer speech setup/training a few times and Voice Attack still seems to have no idea what I'm saying.
Did you guys have the same issues when first using VA? Does VA continue to learn your voice as you use it?
I'm not the clearest of speakers but I didn't think I would be that bad.
I know its not expensive for the full version, but when it can't even recognise simple words like 'hello' and 'close' I must say I'm not convinced.

I dont really have any issues at all. Are you using a desk mic, or a headset mic? The latter works much better for me, but both will do with reasonable accuracy for me. One thing you can try is pay attention to va's output text, if it consistantly mucks up a command the same way, just add what it thinks you are saying as an alternate command to that macro, it should clean up your input.

What also helped me allot, is recording the command into the speach library of windows, on its own.
Words like "Hunter mode" (power to engine and guns), "Eject Eject" (yes i have a eject command), i will record as a single word into the Windows speach library.
Helped me allot, with my mumble type of speaking :)

Control Panel->Speech Recognition->Start Speech Recognition, then right click on the menu that came up, and select: Open the Speech Dictionary-> Add a new word.
In that menu i type in the whole command and or the loose words for the command (so i record "Hunter Mode" and "Hunter" and "Mode")
In the next menu, just check the "Record a pronunciation" box, and record the word.

This option worked great for me, never had problems with calling commands afther that.
And lest face it... you wont need the Voice Recognition for something else... so fill up the Library/Dictionary with your commands.

I tried looking at the output but it's generally always different. I'll give adding the words to the computers dictionary a go.
Thanks for the advice so far.

Edit: it's a desktop mic by the way.

make sure it's aimed right at your face and is no more than about 12 inches away from your mouth. Desktop mics are fine, but the closer you can get it to you, the better it;ll pick you up.

worked so much better after the above advice of adding 'custom words' and pronunciation to the computers dictionary. Thanks guys, I went ahead and spoilt myself with the full version ha ha
