Any PTU tester has some enlightenment on Capture the laptop strategies? On both maps? :))

How is the shotgun? I saw the maps are quite large, can it be used efficiently as a main?

Only the worst players will let you run and gun with a shotgun.
Most and best encounters are all on medium range around objective chokepoints. Place some shots, take some damage, throw a granade, pull back, recover.
With such a high TTK, its really easy to retreat for a second and leak your wouds.

Similar to battlefield, diagonal strafe-walk and short fire bursts work best. I am always getting positive KD playing like that.

But for some reason, i just cant get a headshot. Maybe its because of the framerate

I played only a few hours (the free for all mode) but at first glance
* TTK is not huge, died and killed under 1s (feels instant), may be from the lag but sometimes I don't have time to press fire button. Works well with the entire game pace (very slow turn speed when firing, run slow in medium, big spray cone of the balistic, etc)
* Light armor: I die faster (pretty sure has lower protection), I run ~1.6x faster (real fast). You need to have a good Aim to resist in a close combat. Ofc the disavantage to have only 1 primary weapon.
* Energy rifle: less DPS but has the advantage to not reload so often, from my point of view you have to choose tactical vs brute force (balistic)
* sniper and shotgun: I'm not good enough for them it seems
* the lag from EU OMG sometimes freezes all together, and never went under 150ms
* I had the feeling that the armor has bigger protection from behind (20 bullets to the chest from behind vs 4-5 with the energy rifle, it may be the lag ..)

The maps:
* very big, you can find lots of skirmish tactics, places to camp
* narrow corridors and wide space spaces, every weapon has its place
* you need to remember lots of things (where each ammo/weapon is, medkits), which corridors leads where
* overall are more complex then the average FPS ones
* close combat most of the time, except the Points to capture

I hear the sniper rifle is essentially useless. The shotgun is super effective in specific situations but the rifle is the weapon of choice for the discerning dealer of death because it is most useful in most situations.

in terms of tactics, all I picked up is to at least pair up. Soloing is largely ineffective and those that can play together will usually win together.

Shotgun is useless because it requires 2 shots to kill regardless of where you aim, and the cyclic time in between shots is very, very long.

Use the ballistic rifle, don't run and gun, check your corners religiously and pick your shots carefully. Sprinting and firing your weapon makes you light up on the radar like a Christmas tree, so when you're approaching an objective, just walk. Don't sprint.

I got killed with 1 shot by shotgun and sniper, they are good but needs a proper player and no lag. Because the maps have 3 big types of areas regarding their size I think weapons are balanced
  1. EVA - space - slow reaction speeds and big distance - sniper and energy rifles are on advantage. The less amount of bullets you fire the harder is for the enemies to spot you (because the space is 3d and dark :)))
  2. corridors - shotgun and grenades because ... < 5m distance
  3. rifles - bigger rooms usually where you have the capture points
The radar plays a big role in the meta-strategy part of the game
  • stealth/staying low will make you less (or not at all) visible
  • skirmishes are spotted easier using the sounds and map so helping your allies is easier
  • running - you get there faster but they will probably see you
  • surrounding vs radar - is a swift balance, ignoring one of them is a disadvantage, but and you can't watch both in the same time
  • grenades - I killed a few people just by watching the radar (even at another floor)

IMHO the massive wave tactic would be best, overwhelm the target. hell they cant get you all. and its only a game.
I have seen that tactic played in paint ball, China did it. hell even the Germans did it. we did it at D-Day. if you don`t care about the losses you will take the objective. and if the opposing force is spread out, each point is weak.
now I`m not saying run in like a Berserker, you can still cover your arc as you move, just move as a team.

I've got about eight and a half hours played now. Been killed with a sniper and shotgun about once each. Every other death is from a rifle or grenade. That's where you make your money.

Aim for the head. Don't waste time on body shots. Headshots cause your head to fly around wildly from the impacts, making it nearly impossible to return fire accurately.

Expect that every encounter is going to include a grenade being tossed at you. Most times you can charge forward shooting the guy who has stopped shooting to throw a grenade, and as you move forward you dodge the grenade he tossed where you were standing. By the time he's got his weapon back up he should be dead if you've been unloading into his head for the second and a half that he was tossing his grenade. Just don't stick around in case he dropped it at his feet when he died.
