I haven't seen anyone talk about it yet so I guess I chime in. How many things do you have plugged into PCI slots? If you have network cards, USB hubs, Bluetooth, etc... that can contribute as the GPU is fighting for lanes.

Also what CPU cooler do you have? I had a Corsair H100i in a 4690k and was able to consistently OC to 4.5 GHz but I also will overclock anything I can. Anyone else remember ovwrclocking mice back in the dark times before optical mice?

@DarthMunkee, I don't have any expansion slots filled, other than GPU :) Mouse, Headset, Keyboard, Ethernet Cable, Monitor(Asus 144hz)
Everything is on the motherboard.
The CPU cooler is an Arctic xxx-something, can't recall what model.

I'd say try to OC a little, it's a good processor that is really only held back by the lack of hyper threading. Also overclock the mouse. It can't hurt.

Your cpu is the weakest point but it is not bad, I would suggest investing in more fans or better fans and overhauling your cooling (cheapest place to start). Cooling could help with maintaining boost speeds both on cpu and gpu. There is not much I would say upgrading on that system currently unless you just wanted to move to a modern platform. Which I would say wait till you are ready to move to a new platform :) (the price you would pay for upgrades would go further on the newer platforms)

If you want to improve your times and assuming it’s not server related or just sloppy code..
Memory (32GB)
CPU and motherboard.

Video card is fine and so is the ssd but it’s pretty small. Is that your game drive, your boot drive or both? If separate, what is the other drive and what does it do (game or boot)? If it’s the same, how much free space is on it?

Also, what are you doing in the background and what resolution are you using? What about other graphic features known to hog resources? Are you running 1920x1080 with everything off, or 4K with everything on and also streaming, surfing the web on a second monitor, etc.

@DarthMunkee, I haven't looked into overclocking at all, but that might be the next step (right after doing some temp monitoring, on the mouse ofc.)

@FeaturedSpace, got a link to a good mouse overclocker? Hahah ;)

@Thalstan, the SSD is my main game/boot drive, it has around 60gb free space at all times. I do have around 11tb of storage, but those are not in use when gaming. I'm currently running at 1920x1080 @low. I often tab out to do a quick search for info on different planets/ships/missions.

The last time I checked the only video settings that have gone through any optimizations is the highest option, so you might want to try that to see if there is any difference (if it is the exact same then stay with the highest!)

Hello @Neldoroth & welcome to TEST Squadron if I missed your introduction. I've posted a link to the main page of this site that helps figure out what should be improved on in order to help run Star Citizen well. (excluding issues caused by the lack of optimization that are still needing to be added by CIG) According to the site, you should be able to run SC at the recommended levels, but that the item holding you back most is the CPU. Here is the link to the site with your stats input as best as I could. It will also help you see what options you are planning on upgrading will help you.

I hope that this helps you. Cheers!

Also, given that this is TEST Squadron & Star Citizen is still in Alpha, since you enjoy alcohol based on some of your earlier posts on this treat, I will advise the obvious. In order to enjoy Star Citizen most, TEST everything, in every way, with various amounts of your favorite beverage. Just like in life, you will know when you are at the sweet spot when you will be walking straight & the sober people think you are walking in the shape of an S. Silly sober people with their "clear vision" seeing things differently than you do while feeling goooooooood. Cheers again!

Just a thought, how much do you have plugged in? A solid 600 watt PSU might be enough for the basics, but if you have tons of peripherals, wifi cards, case lighting, and various other addons, it might cause your system to get power starved. I usually pick out a solid 1kw psu on all my builds just to be on the safe side. Then again, my case slightly resembles a Koosh ball with as much as I have plugged into it...

@Bruttle , if your PC resembles a Koosh Ball, then it might be almost as adorable yet bad ass as a baby @Blind Owl drinking a bottle filled with his 1st maple syrup beer. So cute now, but in a few min later, that diaper will truly be a biologically based chemical weapon of horrendous nature.

Man oh man, maple syrup makes no biological chemical weapons.

I promise.

Baby poo smells toxic enough, add alcohol to the mix & that is the real weapon. The maple syrup added is just for flavor in the initial creation.

Are you running Windows 10 or Win7? I went through that BoredGamer page again, and saw something I had never seen before --> Windows 7 "parks" your cores. WTF? Why?

For years, I've been wondering how, if I have 6 cores, why is SC only really using 4 or so of them? I thought it was because it was unoptimized, but Nooooo, Win7 decides (on its own!) that you don't need to use all your cores (that you paid for). What a pile of sh!t. Anyway, last week I unparked my cores like he said, and I went from 16-20 fps to about 22-27 fps, with some dips below, and occasional rises above.

Anyway, it may not be your computer, Windows may be doing something Micro-shafty, so check out his performance guide again, and see if maybe you overlooked something...good luck!
