I'm struggling to find an answer to this online & since it's kinda specific to Star Citizen, you lot might just be the best people to ask.

Coming from triple 24" 144hz the idea was that SC, at least not in its current state would not work well at 5760x1080, I tried - It looks amazing, but really not practical. lol

So, I sold all my sim racing stuff, because flying is just better right?

The plan is to replace the triple monitor setup with a single 16:9 32" (actually 31.5") monitor for the time being, while we wait to see how things develop.

Why a 32" & not a 21:9 34" ultrawide? Well because I've raced on a 34" UW and it's great for cars, where everything is a little more horizontal, but for flight I feel as though the extra vertical space you get from the 32" would be better.

For eg: http://www.displaywars.com/34-inch-21x9-vs-31,5-inch-16x9

Great, just do that then... But there’s a problem...

In my country & with the weird stuff going on in the world right now, there are like 2 monitors I can get, really just 2... really... (No, it’s too late, I sold the others already, I can’t wait, space is calling.)

The first is a 31.5" FHD 1920x1080 165Hz Curved Gaming Monitor with FreeSync (not in stock, but "coming soon") ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The second is Samsung C32JG50 32" WQHD 144Hz Curved Monitor BUUUUT with no FreeSync. (I've heard good things about this monitor.)

I'm far too impulsive to wait, people say 1080p is not good for 32", I played SC before on my non-FreeSync 144hz 24", I didn’t really notice any issues.

Is FreeSync such a deal breaker? Do I just buy the Samsung and be done with it??

So confused... send Halp!

It really depends on your video card as well.'

If you're running a high end video card (ie. AMD 5700xt, Geforce 2070 Super and up), not running FreeSync or GSync is a bit of a waste.

Nothing wrong with 1080p if you're getting the Hz and good colour reproduction. If your monitor is 1080p, make sure it has good colour production, decent refresh rate (Hz), and gets you the frames (Preferably 100 fps). Having a 4k monitor means nothing when you don't have a sufficiently powerful video card to run it.

My monitor is 1440 at 120hz and I think that's a decent compromise.

Ahhh, yes, the video card. :)

It would be getting hooked up to a GTX 1080 and Ryzen 2700X.

So, I think I could manage the Samsung at 1440p, although I recognize that the 1080p monitor would be much easier to drive.

I saw a review of a similar 32" 1080p monitor and the guy mentioned that for him it felt like it made him play worse, that he struggled to see things at longer ranges, like sniping in battlefield. When compared to a 1440p monitor.

I do believe that Samsung is a 1440p?
1440p would be my choice for 32-in
1080p would be just too grainy for me.
I have a g-sync/free sync monitor. It helps if your frame rates are struggling.
If I had to choose I would choose the higher resolution every time.
I have monitor suggestions however if you only have access to monitors that you mentioned? 1440p no free sync would be my choice.

Yeah, that Samsung is 1440p.

I really do appreciate the input, thank you - I think I might go with the Samsung then and call it a day.

In short, freesync / g-sync aren't a necessity however they do improve the overall quality of your visual experience. The rest of the advice above seems pretty spot on.

I'm personally looking at upgrading my current monitor / setup. I'm running a 1070 on a 50 inch screen that's only 60hz @1080p with 1ms response. It's not terrible, great color and contrast from the screen however the screen tearing is pretty bad in SC especially and I don't maintain the frames because the 1070 just isn't cutting it. That being said, this setup runs almost any other game without breaking a sweat. Anyway, I'm looking at going w/ a 2080 of some flavor around the first of the year and I'm looking at a 4k Asus monitor w/ built in g-sync. The main reason for the wait is because I'm hoping the Nvidia 3k series drags the 2k series prices down.

If I remember correctly, FreeSync and G-Sync both require both HDMI 2.1 AND DisplayPort 1.4a (or 2.0) ports on the monitor, that Samsung monitor only has one HDMI 2.0 port, so that's why it isn't classified as even FreeSync.

Nice, I have an obsession w/ large screens that's why I game on a 1k 50 and I'm looking at a 4k 43 inch. The 50 is a TV that happens to have a 1ms response time but it lacks the other features of a monitor like freesync or g-sync. It also only offers HMDI connections not DisplayPort and is limited at 60hz. The 43 inch I'm looking at is from Asus, it's 144hz, has a... I'll just link it.

ASUS ROG Swift PG43UQ 43” 4K HDR DSC Gaming Monitor

It's up for $1899.99 right now which is stupid... the price before COVID was $4-450.00 less.

Wow that's some price difference, I thought profiteering ( as in make an excessive or unfair profit ) was illegal in most countries around the world, specially UN connected nations.

The excuses have been manufacturing delays and shortage of supplies. It's not just this monitor, video cards are up among other things.

Lets be hones here, if we are talking just star citizen then freesync gsync144 hz 268hz doesn't matter a jot - you'll still be getting 30-40fps in most areas of the PU so it doesnt really matter what sync technology or refresh rate monitor you use.

I am looking for a new monitor too but I am totally adverse to spending 1000-2000 on a monitor for some reason. For me it has to be 31-32" 144hz 1ms response. For future proofing and just generally better image quality 1440p may be the way to go especially as you have a card that is capable of pushing 144fps at that res in most normal games (not sc lol).

Freesync or G-Sync is very useful when you play games with the highest settings (like Ultra) at high resolutions (above 1080p); that's because there is chance of getting framerates lower than 60fps in case of some demanding titles.

30fps on G-Sync display still feels smooth, comparing to the standard screen. I'm not sure about Freesync, but G-Sync tries to keep the game look smooth even below 30fps.

Yeah! I noticed that had my eye on update to 2080ti but prices sky rocket and when a business raise prices cause of shortage of supply, or hard to get hold of is profiteering.
So their excuse don't hold up very well ha ha ha ha ha.... 🤣 problem is no one want to deal with the hazel of dragging them to court or care or know enough to do anything about it.
But it should be the state business to regulate it, but as of so far what I see, they don't. 🤔 ...

Well beer solve it ha ha ha ha... 🤣😂🤪

I have been getting emails about this for like a week or two. It seems great but on the pricey side haha. The super wide format is interesting, especially if a multi monitor person.
