Which Hornet?

Hey all,
I currently have a Sabre. A while back I had a Hornet that I upgraded to the Sabre. With 3.10.1+ I loaded the turrets on my loaner Hornet and found myself flying the Hornet more than the Sabre.

My intention then, as now, is to limit myself to one carrier fighter. Since I turned my Retaliator into an Eclipse, I no longer need a Stealth scout. :)

The Super Hornet doesn't fly as well. This isn't something that needs to be done in a hurry, since I do have the loaner.

The obvious choice is to CCU the Sabre to a WIldfire, but I am not sure that is the best choice.

So which Hornet do you think is best?

Why do you think that Hornet is best?

Before I bought any medium fighter, I'd want to fly the Glaive and see how it can be outfitted. Others here will know better. Neither erkul nor hardpoint will allow you to change out the weapons, so I'd want to know first whether it an carry a pair of Revenanats, a pair of FR-66, whether a single Slipstream reactor can power an all ballistic loadout, and just how much slicing and dicing you can do with those blades without wrecking your ship. I'd want to know virtually everything about what a Vanduul ride is like in full stealth--something the Vanduul never do--and even figure out what to do with the spair pair of S1s. Distortion? I'd for sure want to know what slicing with the blades does to the ship while the shields are down.

That is an unique ride that so few have explored and honestly, just the abilities to joust and 2XS5 guns is worth deep consideration. I don't know what can be done with it but it looks like the best dogfighter in game to me.

Will you ever do bounty hunting with it? If so, the Super Hornet is a good choice. Otherwise, most hornets can be configured the same, it’s just a decision of what do you want to outfit it with and what do you want to have covered by your hull insurance.
It only has one job. Air Combat Carrier Fighter. :) The small fighters are too limited range for anything else. :)

Then any of them will do, just figure out which has the load out you would keep the most of (If any). If you would change everything, just get the cheapest unless you want the paint job of the wildfire Or unless you want stealth armor (ghost) or the sensors (tracker). If you are looking at straight up fighting, the F7C is your best bang for the buck.

I CBA to look up which it is but there's one Hornet with 25% greater fuel capacity

everything else can be upgraded/swapped in

I wish they return the Super Hornet to what it was planned to be a while ago,. i.e. it to be able to equip a 1 size up shield, power plant, engine, and cooler than what the regular hornet can equip. Otherwise all hornets are the same, and SH only has a different cockpit.

Also, you should be able to use the second seat to have a second crew member, or to transport a bounty, or to convert it to a gear rack. At least they have mentioned it before.

Otherwise, in its current state, there is no difference between the hornets, as all components are interchangeable, including stealth armor. A regular hornet may be a smaller target, as it has a smaller cockpit.

Personally, I like the SH. When I've TESTed SH vs Sabre, I still liked the SH. Sabre vs SH is a different discussion though. 🍻

The SH has more hull points and about 8% lower lateral acceleration rates. That lack of nimble is why he's asking about the Hornets instead. He can obviously tell the difference.
It also has two less missile rails.
That's right, SH has more hull strength and slower acceleration. Sorry, what I meant was interchangeability of components/functionality.

Personally, I find almost no difference with the difference in acceleration of a Hornet and SH in combat, it's not critical to me, especially with the new mechanics that benefits dogfights with slower speeds. As for the missiles, my understanding is that the Hornet line wasn't about missiles (that's the Sabre's strength), the Hornet was about guns.

The tracker has more of what kind of fuel? Hydrogen or Quantum? And is the Tracker less agile than the others? I seem to remember reading that somewhere, but I can't find it, except on the ship page, which I don't trust. :)
That's a question I may be able to answer if I ever spent any time in game, lol.

The Sabre has 4 size 3 missiles stock, which could also be 8 size 2. the Hornet has 2 size 1 and 2 size 2, which could be 6 size 2. The Super Hornet has 4 Size 2. The Sabre is more agile and has 4 of the same gun mounts. All 3 are, primarily, gun based fighters. That does not mean missiles don't have their place on these ships. Giving up both agility and missile loadout seems like a poor choice to me. And yes, you can really feel the agility difference between the Sabre and the Super Hornet.
