Come ye all good TESTies and take a seat by the heat of the smouldering furnace that is the Star Citizen Ship Showdown 2952!

The final 16 have been announced and already we have sacrifices for the flames! Last years mighty winner the Argo Cargo has not made the cut! The Caterpillar, winner of the first ever 2949 Showdown, nowhere to be seen! And the GreyCat PTV retired from the competition due to technical limitations of being able to add a prize skin to the technically out of date model! Warm yourself next to the glow of these smouldering wrecks and watch on as 16 fan favourites and new contenders run the gauntlet to see who... will take the 2952 crown!

Every day this first post will be updated with the results of the next round, so pull out the popcorn and join us here on TEST for unofficial commentary, hype and discussion of the days new contenders!

Roll up! Roll up!

Make your choice for the inaugural round of this years Ship Showdown!

Group A - Round 1, and it is a pugilistic standoff between two Aegis stablemates, the Gladius and the Redeemer!

One already a winner of The Next Great Starship, the paintbrush of choice and famed location of the most monumental breakdown of a certain Jax McCleary, the other the spine of the Empires light fighter forces usilised from one side of the UEE to the other!

A minor detail: Isn't it the Freelancer MAX, not the base Freelancer (or generic Freelancer family of ships) which is in the contest (In the same way a specific Vanguard, 600i, Cutlass, Carrack, and Avenger are listed, not that "family" of ships)?

On a side note, I wonder if the colours of the "ship showdown" logo is indicative of the colour of any skins that will be produced for the final 4, too. I'm not convinced that an orange and grey skin would look too good on some of these ships (And would make little difference to others).

On the Freelancer, I dunno, which is probably why I'm in Test :-)

Orange and grey are excellent contrasting colours, if i got that I'd be pleased.

I think @Brictoria is right, it's the Misc Freelancer MAX. From Ship Showdown - Let's Enter The Finals! - Roberts Space Industries | Follow the development of Star Citizen and Squadron 42:

Nope, so far the skin colours has been determined by the IAE banner color, the event that will follow SS in October.
Considering also we are talking about GIC that trend is not to take as granted....

With only 3k votes between them both have passed the 10 thousand votes stage but having taken the early lead the Redeemer remains stubbornly in the fore!
Interesting that the difference stayed at around the 3k mark throughout the voting period (The first "scores" I saw were 10k Vs 7K).

I'm sure nothing untoward was going on there...

The Gladius - Gone! The Redeemer - Fights on!

The first post has been updated to show the winner, but who will stand along side and take its place as contender in Round 9... the RSI X-shaped Scorpius newcomer or the tried, tested and very trusted Vanguard Warden?

They can both bring the noise but only your votes will do the talking!

Its really interesting, I've seen some rounds in the past where they were leapfrogging all the way with only a few hundred votes to separate and sometimes one takes and keeps a clear lead... In this case I'm not surprised, New Hotness tends to take the crown over Old and Busted no matter how well it is maintained and the Gladius is one of the linchpin ships which gets a lot of care and attention.

The Scorpius scoops an easy win with the Vanguard vanquished, not making it to the 10k votes mark - the RSI will face the Redeemer in Round 8!

Round 3 and the first contenders of Group B: X marks the spot for these Explorers as two old hands step up to the plate! The Lavish 600i faces the rugged compactness of the Terrapin!

The 600 is bigger... but which has the bigger following... your votes will decide!
