Remember that the exploration gameplay is obviously not in game. So even the Carrack in its current form can be seen as useless for many. It has some use (transport ship for cargo/vehicle, respawn point, group ship for pve) but none of those use match his main intended role yet.

If you melt an Odyssey, especially if it was a standalone (more credit than optimised upgrade and ability to buy it back if you change your mind later) and adding your remaining credits, you'll have more than enough to test multiple ships till you are satisfied according to your preferred game...
