    Is anyone playing on Linux?

From July 2023 Monthly PU report: "Progress was then made on removing the remaining ‘MapAndWrite’ discard calls in the renderer in preparation for the new Vulkan backend. They also reworked the game-launcher code structure to reduce code duplications and enable Linux-based headless clients...

    Is anyone playing on Linux?

Thanks for the shoutout.. From what I have been led to believe in conversations, the intent is or at least was to create a native Linux client. Other than the client, the entire rest of the game runs on Linux servers and there are devs within the company who want to close the loop. Vulkan...

Tell me I didn't make a mistake... Ordered VKB vs. Virpil

I'd have to respectfully disagree. This game comes alive with a set of high quality controllers, and right now Virpil owns that segment of the market. Thrustmaster and VKB have some respectable entries, and there are the units like Bruner if you fall into Legatus status IRL. Star Citizen's...

    Is anyone playing on Linux?

https://github.com/starcitizen-lug/knowledge-base/wiki There is a small but dedicated collection of space penguins keeping Linux in the fight; it's even been a question brought up to the Evocati. The link above has most of the information, including the in-game org and the Discord server. I...

Does This Cross-Section Make My Ass Look Fat? (using missiles)

I don't think the active ping is in use for this, but it would be very difficult to know right now as pings from other ships, or even turrets on your own ship are not visible to you as a pilot. As the mechanics work it may not matter, because these are passive detection values for the 'radar'...

and none taken.. I'm sure the quote is in a movie somewhere, probably something about downing a quart of ice cream.

I'll supply beer whenever we get a chance to meet. Is that adequate?

Clearly I needed an editor. Or more to drink. Either way you're hired.

    Poll: Worth being an Avocado?

Nah. We got some vocal people in here, but by-n-large it's folks who are willing to step into the mess in whatever state it is. Kinda fun sometimes. @Dirtbag_Leader Best way I can think to say it comes from John Mclane in Die Hard "Welcome to the Party, Pal!"

There is no shame.. :drunk: I'm trying out for a position with Whitley's Guide, although probably could have covered the important bits in less verbiage.

Missiles as a standoff weapon in 3.19.1 Anyone else miss genuine stealth gameplay? I do, and here are some of the results of trying to find The Way of the Sneaky Bastard. With the 3.19.1 patch the repair prices seem to have gone up a fair bit. During one bounty mission I lost situational...

    Hello Test

Welcome to TEST! Going by your name, I gotta ask what color, armor class and saving throws.. Once you get the server sorted out definitely jump in, that is where to find folks to play with.

I can only imagine the effort in capturing and editing the NPC behaviors. The long exposure, tracked motion time-lapse shot are just a tiny bit mind blowing as well :)

Does CIG need to bring in a publisher? (video)

Not going to completely disagree, but I am not going to completely agree either. Unless you have a well-defined formula, say for retail product development, there are always unforeseen issues that crop up during the course of a project. My statement is perfectly accurate; while bad project...

Does CIG need to bring in a publisher? (video)

Pretty much Project Management in a nutshell. Stuff keeps getting added, until it doesn't and all the things that matter are done.

Does CIG need to bring in a publisher? (video)

No. No publishers. No opinions from minimally invested, impatient people who want it the way THEY want it, and now. This project happened, like so many other things in life, because a handful of stubborn people pulled together to make it so. Let the folks doing the hard work to make the...

New Arena Commander seems kind of premature.

A fair question. Compared to the PvP crowd, combat speeds will be much lower as current velocities won't be attainable anymore. Personally, I've been fighting for the last several years in the 300 m/s range simply because it allows me to get more hits on target, be that PvP or PvE. No, I'm not...
