If it takes say 4 hours to die from starvation, but I have a feeling it will end up being more, I feel that will be plenty of time to explore a cave, and if you have to come back after 3 or 4 hours to head back out it sounds reasonable to me.

Well they said it will be "hours" or even having to eat ONCE per play session. I am sure if you notice you're getting low you'll have plenty of time to go get food. It sounds like if you get to the point of starvation, especially in a dog fighting ship that does not have a lot of fuel to travel...

It says they last longer than a normal flare and they gave subscribers two packs so you have two of each color. From the description it sadly sounds like they are consumables for one-time uses. =(
