    Thoughts on the Valkyrie?

If what you mean by suppressing fire, is firing to keep the heads down of an adversary, I think missiles do that quite well. Any S3 missle will force a foe to fly defensive for a bit and allow you to maneuver behind them. Also note, the only mention we have of spike missiles in game thus far...

    the Sentinel

Yeah, I know. However, there is no denying that the ships were designed with fore and aft modules on each side, and the fact they put the beds on both sides, the kitchen on both sides and even removed the head, does seem to say they intend more modularity here than expected. Otherwise why even...

    the Sentinel

Have you tried pulling the distortion weapons and putting in Scorpions? Have you tried replacing the primary reactor with one that putd pout less EM sig, to see if that increases your stealth?

    Thoughts on the Valkyrie?

I agree, and it is important to consider the Valk's lack of missiles. Right now we don't think much of it because missile suck so bad, but one hopes they will matter in the future. If I had a choice between flying the Sentinel, Connie, Valk, Mercury or Corsair in combats against each other...

    the Sentinel

So, more to ponder on the Sentinel. Suppose you want to run short "day tripper" missions with it, and don't want the beds, kitchen and toilet for a couple hours. It appears, that each of the Vanguards have 4 swappable modules counting port fore and aft, then starboard fore and aft, the 4...

    the Sentinel

So has anyone tried out ballistics in the Sentinel, tried putting a small reactor in to see if with shields down and big reactor off, it is especially more stealthy, etc?

Predicting the future of ship to ship combat

I would love to find that spreadsheet. I poked around and could not, so if anyone here has a link, please do share. I'm not down with the notion that a single small ship should never be able to destroy a bigger one. I think it ought to be fantastically hard for a Mustang to down a StarG...

What do you look for in SC spaceships these days?

You want to take those elk before they're cumin to the rut.

Virpil restock and Constellation Alpha pre-order and Sunlight Dynamics 6DOF stick

Wow. But again no chair mount. I am annoyed. Color me annoyed. Annoyed I am, I say. ANNOYED!!! It's a funny word, like "turtles". Just feels funny in the mouth.

What do you look for in SC spaceships these days?

If you find elk that have no sage in their diet, it is very hard to tell from beef.

    Ship for dangerous traderoutes

Thanks for this. I was not aware. It will be interesting to see if you can carry just one big fuel tank, or perhaps two if you're gathering both kinds of fuel, and have the rest available for cargo. Then you can refuel your fighter escorts as needed, refine more fuel as needed, etc. I have...

    Ship for dangerous traderoutes

I'm not familiar with any stats for main engine acceleration, but I think even unladen, the SF takes more on the order of a full minute to reach top speed. That's just from watching the vids. It takes 4.5 seconds to turn 90*, while the Vanguard takes about 1.1 seconds. It is unfortunate that...

    Ship for dangerous traderoutes

I think we've confused several issues. We were speaking of the SF, not the StarG. I would not attack a StarG with a single Hoplite. Maybe with a Sentinal. The StarG has an S8 turret and S3 missiles. However, it has greatly reduced cargo, and I doubt you could use it as a hauler for other...

    Ship for dangerous traderoutes

Okay so, if it were me, I likewise would not want to attack anything as large as an SF with just one ship. I actually theorycrafted an outline for 3 Vanguards attacking in small groups about a year or so ago, and I think I did a scenario with a Warlock and a Cutty, but I'll indulge again this...

    Ship for dangerous traderoutes

There are lots of ways to attack an SF. We don't know enough details about what the actual situations will be yet to say I'd choose one over another, but for example, when CIG was asked whether shields mitigate spike missile damage, they did not answer. It's entirely likely the missile...

    Ship for dangerous traderoutes

Last I heard the plan is still to treat distortion damage from weapons, spike missiles (Arrester IIIs) and EMP all the same--they don't damage ship's components at all. Distortion weapons will go against shields first, but then go to the computer and everything run by the computer will go down...

    Ship for dangerous traderoutes

You're convincing me. I am however, still leery of the Drake reputation of fielding tissue paper. Most would need to be quite crazy to attack a Kraken for financial gain, so perhaps there mere presence of the thing is enough to dissuade. Simplest though might be a Hull E with an Idris flying...

    Ship for dangerous traderoutes

I was thinking that too! but if you're going to go that high a price for a transport, I think the Idris is probably a better choice. It can land on terrestrial surfaces, so you skip the entire loading/unloading stage of transport which is fraught with peril. The Idris really is a superb hauler...
