This just in, my lowly FX-6300 and GTX 1050 Ti will run SC at 4K, very high at 15 FPS, AT PORT OLISAR!!

It was just a short test since WifeyGimp and I are going out to dinner shortly but holy F'ing cow, 4K at 15 FPS, at Port Olisar.

I already run FSX at 4K and run DCS at 1440 which is where I have been running SC, but this more than anything shows the limit for me was largely server side. 3.0.1 has improved my 1440 FPS now to 15-25 usually, but it is only a few FPS less in stunning 4 F'ing K.

Oh my gosh, it is 4 freakin' K, I cannot believe, it's freakin' 4K on my rig.

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99E9fDgZZuE

CPU was averaging 60-65% load, GPU was busy though, 85-ish % load, occasional 100% (and about 50 C for temp after a couple minutes), which would lead me to expect some GPU initiated stutters in combat but still, damn.

When we get back from dinner I am going to try some gameplay to see how it looks.

Jaw dropped...

What kind of frames you getting at 1920x1080?
That's the rub, almost no difference 1080 to 1440, last I checked 1080 was 15-17, 1440 was 11-13 in 3.0. I'll run a couple test when I get home.

Gotta say, it was sure pretty.

OK, quick test results as follows:

System Specs-
AMD FX-6300 3 physical cores, 6 logical cores, mild OC using AMD Overdrive, to 4.1 GHz, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR 3 RAM
GTX 1050 Ti, 4GB, mild OC to 1898 MHz/ using MSI Afterburner
Borderless Fullscreen Windowed Mode
Server with 20/50 when I joined

In PU 3.0.1 - Gladius, (2 data points each, Cocpkit view and External View, @ 2-3000+ feet above ground, and close to ground), Daymar, in flight Max SCM, some maneuvering

1920 x 1080 (both game setting and display resolution)
- High Altitude Internal View 16-17 FPS, CPU ~75%, GPU ~35%
- Low Altitude Internal View 14-16 FPS, CPU ~80%, GPU ~40%
- High Altitude External View 13-14 FPS, CPU ~75%, GPU ~25%
- Low Altitude External View 11-12 FPS, CPU ~75%, GPU ~45%

2560 x 1440 (both game setting and display resolution)
- High Altitude Internal View 13-14 FPS, CPU ~65%, GPU ~45%
- Low Altitude Internal View 11-12 FPS, CPU ~70%, GPU ~55%
- High Altitude External View 12-14 FPS, CPU ~70%, GPU ~35%
- Low Altitude External View 12-14 FPS, CPU ~75%, GPU ~45%

3840 x 2160 (both game setting and display resolution)
- High Altitude Internal View ~11 FPS, CPU ~65%, GPU ~99%
- Low Altitude Internal View 10-11 FPS, CPU ~70%, GPU ~95%
- High Altitude External View 9-12 FPS, CPU ~75%, GPU ~75%
- Low Altitude External View 8-10 FPS, CPU ~75%, GPU ~95%

I did the above in same server, would simply change display resolution then game resolution, to try and keep it apples to apples. When I logged in, FPS at Port Olisar was again 13-15 FPS and I started in 4K.

All 3 settings suffered noticeable stutters, only difference was the magnitude, and it was MORE noticeable on the lower resolution than the higher with one exception where the 4K dropped to 4 FPS for about 2 seconds.

I did jump into Arena Commander and Revel & York Hangar at 4K, AC showed 12-14 FPS internal and 25 FPS external, both at 100% GPU. The hangar, with a Connie Aquila loaded, was 8-11 FPS and 100% GPU, 12-14 FPS and 100% when empty.

So not necessarily what I expected, and I had actually gotten used to playing at 9-10 FPS when 3.0 first dropped.

I'm going to try some trading in the Penguin at 4K and see how it fares.

It may be a good idea to add more memory to you computer that should help increase your fps also.im not sure what the max speed of memory you can use in your system is(no time to really research it hell i dont have time to research my own).

The combat stutter is a new feature of 3.0.1. Also with a better GPU this occurs. A very good change is that shield recharge rate is lowered making the sleazy Gladius pirates less invincible.

I have seen others in other places stating they get more favorable performance at higher settings - I think it's because it hasn't been optimised so you put in your settings and take whatever you get. I'm still running lowest everything because something in my head says my computer will explode with anything more.

Optimise Prime says:

So final update.

I flew a pizza, beer and stims run in the Connie at 4K, steady at 9-11 FPS once I left Olisar, including a pirate interdiction on the way to Daymar. Ran same run at 1440 and was seeing 14-17 FPS.

CIG is on the right track, in a month I have gone from almost unplayable single digit FPS at 1080 to low double digits at 4K, only difference on my side is the mild OC on the CPU and GPU.

I'll stay at 1440 for now as it is a good balance of performance and ooooh, ahhh, pretty - after I walk around Levski at 4K.

Interesting findings, it's good to see they made some progress for some!

For me it's all gone to hell again, with sub 20fps at best, mostly in the lower 10s, and tons of lag spikes/stuttering. Basically, it's unplayable again due to the constant stops/stuttering, just like it was in the 3.0 PTU. And just when I was finally getting into it with 3.0 being "smooth" 15-25 fps...

By the way, running on Very High graphics and switching from a 16:10 to a "normal" 16:9 fullHD monitor did help with glitches and gave better looking result with better performance compared to "low" graphics! Also running BoredGamers user.cfg to eliminate motion blur and glare did help with performance and I can see what's happening, not just a blurry mess!
My CPU (4670K) is still only at 70%-80% when not spiking, and GPU (1060 6gb) is at 20-30%, no changes there, so there is still a loooong way to go.
This is a very personal issue, but unplugging my custom joystick usb adapter (I'm still using my beloved MS Sidewinder 3d pro) and using a gamepad or m+kb does seem to improve performance while flying in PU just a tiny tiny bit. I think it's to do with my joystick constantly sending signals to the game due to it's age and shitty deadzone. I like it the way it is, but the game and thus the network code gets way more updates for tiny movements than it would with the usual huge deadzone of an xbox gamepad or modern hotas. I'll try setting the deadzone higher and see if it makes a difference...

My REC ship is gone from the ship-console, but both my REC ships, including an older purchase, appear in the trade console now as valid targets for cargo! Strange, and not good. I don't have any non-REC ships that could handle either battles or cargo (Aurora, 300i). So I guess I'll be skipping this version for a while yet again.

To think yesterday I spawned into Port Olisar with a sweet 50 fps that stayed that way for a good 15 mins while I messed around. Spawned a Constellation and attempted to jump to Yela. And when I say attempted its because as soon as the ship started to wind up for a jump it did the shakes for an interdiction and so I would drop out immediately. Not that it matters as soon as I finished the warp stop animation the cool down was over and i would be able to warp again but each attempt to jump to Yela quickly ended with an interdiction as well as a 10 fps drop to the point where I just killed the program as it was running at 3 fps. 3 attempts all ended in the same way so I stopped for the weekend.

Don't jump directly to Yela, instead jump a short time to Daymar, abort the jump, then turn to Yela again. If pirates are on the route between Port Olisar and Yela, they can be avoided by taking a small detour. 3 times is not to bad. At a bad time I had 6 or 7 interdictions between Yela and CryAstro. Me flying a Sabre, pirates in Caterpillars :joy::joy::joy:

Damn I have been running a GTX 1080 and wondering if I could still have good performance and if I could invest in a 4k monitor and not have a thing like a fighter jet next to me.

I might have to save up what I can and get one.
