I wanted to make a set of 3D Printable Kit Cards that were thin and light enough to be mailed for a single stamp.

Post image

For anyone unfamiliar, kit cards are small card based versions of these 3D puzzles we used to do as kids.

Post image

Each card is approximately the same dimensions as a credit card.

These were designed by tracing outlines of the respective ship silhouettes from multiple angles into a separate layer in GIMP,

Post image

then using Microsoft 3D Builder to convert those silhouettes into 3D models,

Post image

then importing and manipulating those models in TinkerCAD.

Post image

I sliced them with CURA 4.6,

Post image

and printed them at 0.2mm layer height with a 0.4mm nozzle on a Creality Ender 3 Pro.

An assembly video of the two kit cards can be found here:

Great work fellow TESTie, I can already see a TEST meeting held at CitizenCon were all attendan have one of this as a name tag... painted in black and jellow of corse.

By the look them I think i won't be too difficult to convert one of those into a nametag pin also, would be cool to have the aurora converted that way for the next CitizenCon for every TEST member that attend it.

I do NOT own a 3D printer and I've never actually seen one in person. I know nothing of this process... BUT, I got to watch this project come together and it was a fascinating learning experience. I think the final product is FANTASTIC and a great homage to those flat puzzle models. I can't wait to see how you tackle larger ships. I imagine an Idris, in this scale, will be an entire deck of cards :glorious:

Thanks!

Interesting idea with the badges. That's definitely something I could look into.
