Damage research required (for next event/operation)

So I was going through the video I recorded (link at the bottom) and found myself wondering about some points:

1) I noticed that weapons used in the 25vs25 event (i.e. anything but railguns) couldn't break the rover's shields (the driver reported that the shields DID drop, but by keeping the rover spinning and backing out to regen shields, he was able to keep them from breaking).
2) The rover's turret can't aim down, so it was quite a challenge to shoot at the infantry, but when I did manage to get an angle a couple of shots managed to score a kill. BUT, I also tried to shoot on a cutlass(?) that was landed in the area, and I scored a lot of hits on it, but I am quite sure I didn't manage to break the shields at all.
3) Some basic tactics were "attempted" but I think we can say they didn't go well. The attackers tried to split into groups, one group was supposed to be sniper/scout group in the rover, while others form the main attack force. Not sure where the main attack force ended up, but they landed way too far from the main battle grounds.
4) It has also come to my attention that because it took everyone (and by everyone I mean the attacking team) to get to the battle area, the defenders lost a lot of O2 and some even died (I think?).

I propose some research into these matters in order to help better plan for the next event:

1) How much damage does a railgun do? Is it a proper counter to rovers/airships or is it too op at this time?\
2) How much damage does the rover turrets do? can they work as basic AA? or are they too weak and their damage can be ignored?
3) Can a rover's shield tank aircraft weapons decently? if found to be fair, maybe fighters can be considered proper counter to rovers in future battles.
4) Can a rover supply infinite O2? How many people at a time can use a rover to resupply on O2?
5) Is it possible for the attackers to use an aircraft for scouting the battlefield before deploying? can you see infantry on the ground? can you see other ships if they are powered down?(would help plan where to drop infantry/ assess the lay of the land)
6) What is the effective range of weapons? (snipers/rifles/railgun/etc.)
EDIT1:
7) How long does a suit's O2 tank last? How much does oxipen add?

Feel free to answer/add questions, I hope this would supply information and help the organization when next we have a planned event.

The cutlass I moved out of the way and onto that rock.. I foolishly parked it in a way where no one could easily get back into it.. so no one was able to use it for cover effectively or use it's turret.

Yea I noticed those rovers seemed invincible to infantry as I was running around and recording. I was also surprised as the camera guy in all white I was still getting shot at but miraculously not dying. Now it makes sense since you wrote the rover turrets don't shoot downward.

And finally I was killed by the cyclone, and after that I don't know what happened.

But yea! Should definitely test all these questions out

In all out honesty, as the gunner on the rover (and as evident by the video) the current turret turn model is very challenging to aim with (the same thing happens in ships too). Add to that the fact that during the night there is almost 0 visibility with the headlights off makes aiming at anything on the ground from the rover turret is nearly impossible... Would opening an issue on the issue council help?

Question 5: I was stationed as escort to fend any potential griefers away. I landed among the last and hovered around the area. The fight took place during the night time and to be frank I couldn't see jack sh*t on the ground.

I know the defending team reported that the attackers scouted them with ships, but from what I know (and heard in the discord) we didn't even know we'd done that. In short, I didn't see any players.

If it was daytime, and people where moving around, I guess it would be possible. But not that easy, I think you need to really scout quite close to the ground.

I did however see some player tags (In retrospect I understood that I saw the tag of one of the defending teams scouts). We joined the server as one big party, and for upcomming events we should definitely make sure that all players on the attack and defending teams are in the correct parties.

Yes, I agree that night time ops are very hard at this time, with no night vision or something similar, it's very hard to target anything at night (be in from the ground or the air). I think the best course of action for this one is to avoid night area for the time being.

So in order to properly plan something, it is important to know the rotation cycle of moons and when locations on moons have dawn and dusk.

I say we go have some fights on Daymar.

My question - if we park a Dragonfly somewhere near a cliff on Delamar, and then jump a Cyclone/Ursa off the cliff and ram the Dragonfly...will it 'splode? Will the driver be crushed by the rover?

does the location really need to be planned beforehand? can't we pick a post that happens to be in the sun side when we get into a server? or if picking a location is important, and as it took us 2 hours of setting up before the actual action started, we can get into a server, and by the time everyone gets set up with ships and matching armor sets etc we can have someone scout possible engagement areas (or whatever you want to call them)

That really depends on the day cycle. If a day cycle on a moon is 4 hours and you pick a location which is at noon, then probably dusk starts 2 hours later.

You expect events to last longer than 2 hours without a beer break? :beers:
Well, assembly can be a time consuming activity. At the 25 vs 25 event defenders died of oxygen deprivation because the attackers took their time. I don't know how much time you have oxygen without refilling.
The defenders for sure had enough time to get some beer, or you install a mini-fridge next to your desk :beers::beers::beers:

yeah we had several different issues (not all were avoidable with prior planning) but as for defenders dying of oxygen deprivation, I think next time you should just stay in a ship/transport until the coordinator(s) say that both teams are ready to start

but as for defenders dying of oxygen deprivation
Hmmmm, you are in a hostile environment. What would you do if you don't know when you get attacked? Let everybody outside wait until the attack starts, risking that everybody starts to get oxygen shortage at the same time?
Or put a few watches outside, well positioned to protect the exits of the shelter and get the rest outside under cover fire of the watches to repel the attack?
Of course there is a risk that the watches get surprised and the standby team gets trapped inside the shelter.

Another good thing to TEST, how long will the oxygen supply last and how much extra time you can buy with the oxygen pens (if they work)

Well... if I was defending I wouldn't be rotating guards at about 50% O2 tank? also having someone scouting in a ship/rover/whatever that isn't reliant on limited O2 supply would be a good idea if applicable.

I added the "how long does the oxygen supply last" to the OP.

yeap, I would rotate the guys outside. Not 50/50 but at intervals.
Let's say that you have 1 hour of oxygen, then I would take care that 1/4th would be at 50%, 1/4th at 75%, 1/4th at 100%, the last 1/4th recharging. When the recharging team is fully recharged, then lowest team would rotate with the recharged team. Oxygen pens reserved for the attack.
That gives the defending team the good oxygen supply advantage, while the attackers have a deadline.

Rotation time of Daymar is approximately 2:28. From sunrise to sunset is approximately 1:14. I selected a point on the equator of Daymar. The North pole is at OM6, the south pole is at OM3. OM1 and OM4 are on opposite sides of the planet, OM2 and OM5 are also on the opposite sides.
I picked a point underneath OM2, OM1 pointing westward, OM4 pointing eastward (where the sun comes from)
21:50 sunrise, 22:27 noon, 23:04 sunset, 00:18 sunrise again.
Oxygen supply when not moving is much longer then daylight. After 1:45 my oxygen supply was at 0%

That really depends on the day cycle. If a day cycle on a moon is 4 hours and you pick a location which is at noon, then probably dusk starts 2 hours later.
I must rephrase my previous statement, instead of 4 hours you have 1:14 hours.

An event surely will take longer then 37 minutes
