So, the current state of SC is such that I am holding off on playing again until 3.1 as I have figured out most of what made 3.0 cool - in the meantime I have been playing the shit out of the DCS World 2.5 open beta using a community mod F/A-18C Hornet.

Yesterday I created a self-escort-strike ground attack mission and flew it - could not believe how immersive it was (I had a wingman until he flew into the ground on a gun run, target fixation is bad mmmmkay).

So damn much fun, and I can't wait until Eagle Dynamics releases their study-level simulation of the Hornet, with accurate avionics, systems and weapons modeling - will be amazing.

@SullyQuindarius I would actually start with the Belsimtek F-5E-3 Tiger II if you want something that is more simulation and less arcadey, otherwise I would do the Flaming Cliffs 3 package (you get the F-15C, A-10A, SU-27/33, and Mig-29 I think) - they are not interactive/clickable cockpits so you need a decent HOTAS or memorize a shitload of key commands but they are fun and capable, just not as immersive IMO as the F-5E-3, it is a lot of fun - at least it will be until the official Hornet comes out.

@AstroGimp01 let me rephrase my question - which plane has the best flight characteristics? I want something with good performance that's still easy to fly, since I've been out of flight sims for around three years. Gonna have to get some practice. I'd think the F-5 you recommended would fit that still, since it was a trainer turned fighter...

@SullyQuindarius , yes, definitely the F-5E-3 for that kind.

@Rear_Intruder , yes, there are folks who do it in VR, not me, but lots of people who are into VR.

Sad DCS news

https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=205068

Yesterday afternoon, our leader and friend Igor Anatolievich Tishin passed away from complications post chemotherapy. We mourn this tragic loss and pray for his family, his wife Tania and father Anatoly Petrovich. Eagle Dynamics was a huge part of his life and most of our dreams stemmed from there. The Team will gather soon to ensure that Igor's legacy gone on and always be remembered in the products we make. We commit to following his wishes and for the dream to continue through the capable hands of those who remain. The whole Eagle Dynamics team, family and friends pray God to our beloved Igor.

Our deepest condolences to all who knew him and loved him well.
