Honestly, the ad for this group looked the most welcoming. The other invites i saw looked to be way more serious about hardcore gaming. Im a very casual player myself.

anyone around he run SC with a gtx 970? Looking to upgrade from a gtx 670 ref.
Even in an early build I can get solid frames on 'high' graphics settings with my 960, a 970 should do just fine

I have the 970 and everything works great but once the game releases I do plan on upgrading and getting a 2nd PC.
Everything but the PU is great, still a good bit of optimization left for the PU. So in due time I shouldn't be having any frame issues
Welcome to Test! When I need bearings I use a compass.... I like to get lost too.
The 970 GPU will perform well with SC. Currently, everyone has a lower framerate in the mini-PU due to backend server coding. This is being rewritten and will be completed within a couple of months.
If you can afford it, I have an ASUS STRIX 1080 GPU and it uses less power and provides a much higher framerate (also it is watercooled).

I play in:
i7 4770 3,4Ghz
16 Gb DDR3
Strix 970 at 2560 x 1080p
HDD 7200rpm (it's important for perfomance in comparation with SSD)
And high / veryhigh settings (User.cfg edited) with shadowplay on, Vsync off
Getting:
57 - 75 fps on hangar loading ships
43 - 55 fps on Area 18 and Arena commander (Dron battles)
20 -30 fps on PTU /Crusader/ sometimes 15 - 25 on stations (olissar, grim hex, kareah)
if shadowplay is off, got + 5 - 10 fps
I play more on Arena commander, sometimes put the offline code to test and play with all 2.5 ships and, preffer dron battles for this.
