so what would be the recomanded laser to use on a solo prospector?

and what would be the recomanded on a mole?
The Lancet seems like a good one on moles.

I'd give skilled miners the helix, and then Hofstede or Lancets to new miners or those who are only going to help on the tough rocks.

The throttle dampening on the helix should be able to be mitigated in emergencies by backing off or swinging the gimbal off target, yes? So I guess what really matters on that one is just how hard the rock breaks even on a perfect fracture.

Also, I'm assuming only the user of the laser sees the debuff applied to the rock? If the lancet lowers instability and resistance for everyone mining the same rock, then I'd definitely want one guy with one of those on my team.

I assume the buffs/nerfs are unseen to everyone and will require head math and 'feeling' the rock out. Will find out tomorrow.

Assuming they are still not so expensive as to be running at a loss, I'd imagine using Helix's all around... but I also mine with an analogue control lever so fine heat control hasn't been an issue for me personally. Might be different if using a scroll wheel :)

Good idea on pricing and easy to add for later however these prices will probably fluctuate when the econ sim gets added.

The table is a bit confusing as to what is what, especially with the various positive and negative numbers and damping vs regular numbers, etc. I would suggest changing it all to a multiplier number for resistance and instability

So if it reduces either resistance or instability by half, the multiplier is 0.5
If it increases resistance or instability by half, the multiplier is 1.5

I think that would make it more readable. Maybe something like this?

I like this. A lot! Maybe not in the guide itself but it's a good reference for when people get comfortable and start thinking about different equipment.

Mole mining suggestions.

I've now used a helix on my prospector on some big rocks (5k ish/10 percent bexalite/5 percent Hepnaestanite/20 percent quartz was the biggest).
Instability on this puppy was high at around 5.5 or so raw, about 2.75 with the helix

Now, given that instability was my biggest factor in this, and in the interest of keeping things as inexpensive as possible, I would recommend the following loadout on a MOLE, assuming you mine with a crew of 2-3 miners

Front installation - Helix S2
both side installations with the Hofstede S2,
This would put your total costs in the range of 130k or so for mining heads compared to 330k (ish) for 3 Helix lasers)

Yes, it would be really nice to have 3 Helix as it increases the number of rocks you can mine at once (once they fix the UI). Since the helix can crack anything at present, the other two would just be there for the buffs to green window size, instability, and resistance (just resistance if you have the hofstedes). Just get in range for the Hofstedes (or 3 Helix) for the rock you are going to crack, and have two people just target the rock and keep it on minimum power and let your best miner control the cracking of the rocks. Once all the rocks have been cracked, sweep up the good stuff and move on.

Even with an initial instability of 6, having just one Hofstede and one Helix will reduce that to 1.5, which is very manageable. Another Hofstede would reduce it to .75 (if I am doing the math right), which would make it downright easy to crack.

Now, you can run with 3 Hofstede units too, putting your upgrade investment at 30-33k or so, which is significantly cheaper than just one Helix, and I would suggest that you might want to procure your two side units first as even with just those two, you should be able to crack any rock you come across, but it might take more coordination work for the initial crack.

So, all that said, if you do mining with crews, I would run the following path for upgrades
Hofstede, Hofstede, Helix, then maybe add one or two more helix for your sides. Just beware. If you use 3 helix, it's going to REALLY HURT if you blow that rock up by accident.

You're got the math correct.

I have encountered rocks(very rare) that could not be cracked by a Helix. These usually have 4-5 different minerals inside of them and while the rock may have only been a 6K mass or so rock with 'low' resistance it still took 2 full power helix heads to break it. Why? I don't have any proof but I suspect that each mineral inside the rock has a specific resistance factor to it. Combined with the overall mass of the rock the laser sometimes won't make a dent unless you bring a 2nd.
