I've made some really bad decisions in my life and I'm not afraid to make more. TEST Squadron has taught me one thing and that's to buy ships while shouting "TEST SQUADRON!"

I think I'm ready to support the project so we can all have another ship to defeat with our infinite Auroras.

Are you still going to throw $1000+ at some big ship?
If that's the accumulated value of all the S10 torpedoes lightening up that big boy then yes, I probably would.
But I am way too socially impaired to crew a ship like that so anything bigger than an Asgard is wasted on me.
And yes, I do own (the picture of) a Banu Merchantman.
I am aware of the Hypocrisy. 😽

Yeh but the BMM cost you less than the asguard so you could turn that frown upside down and consider it just excellent value for money.

I stopped giving CIG money years ago - it's their job to spend it wisely on finishing the actual game. After watching them spending a million quid on decorating their headquarters with overpriced custom furnature, I know I made the right choice to stop.

While I can't really argue with that, at least they decorated the Office to look like in-game settings.
It's not like CR spent it on a red Ferrari, a Yakuzi and some hookers.
So he wasted money in the spirit of the game at least. 😬

He's got the feearari and hookers too - and a multi million buck mansion and probably private jet.

Don't for one minute think him sandy and his bro have not got filthy rich from our jpeg fascination and poor financial decisions. I knew a guy one who had an idris and loads of other ships, but couldn't afford to eat properly and had to live with his mum.

Tragic story. Though the question remains how an 11 year old kid was able to pay for a Javelin in the first place...?
Jokes aside, we do spend too much money on this game. Or once did in your case.
But still, considering that I am at this for a decade now, it WAS cheaper than doing drugs for twelve years.
Healthier too I assume.
And I do get my kicks out of it.
So CR and his goons kept my on the straight and narrow by making sure I was financially unable to stray from the path.
Someone hand that man a prize or something!

Is there a story purpose behind a new battlecruiser, larger than the Javelin?
This ship is the manifestation of an evolving naval doctrine caused by the shit that went down during the SQ42 campaign.
So probably yes.
There's a story.
Whether it's a story of human courage or greed remains to be seen. 😽

The UEE had a navy, and that navy included giant freaking carriers.
From the Star Citizen Wiki https://starcitizen.tools/Category:Battleships
A Battleship (UEEN Ship Class Designation: BB)[1] is a military vessel designed for fleet combat, space control and orbital bombardment. Along Fleet carriers, Battleships belong to the largest class of what are termed Capital ships. Next smaller class is the Battlecruiser.

From that same site:
A Battlecruiser (UEEN Ship Class Designation: CB)[1] is a fast military vessel designed for offensive combat. One several of what are termed Capital ships. Typically, a battlecruiser is similar in size to an Escort carrier, larger than a Cruiser and smaller than a Battleship or a Fleet carrier.

The true purpose of a Battlecruiser is to hunt down fast ships like cruisers, blockade runners and commerce raiders, relying on its speed and superior firepower. Those two advantages can also be employed to screen an armada or to flank enemy fleets.

Flyable Battlecruiser was part of the $17 Million Stretch Goal.[2]

In February 2026 Jared Huckaby confirmed that a Battlecruiser would be announced in May of the same year as the last concept ship of Star Citizen[3]. One Battlecruiser, named Braintree, is mentioned in reference to the discoveries of the Bocaccio.[4]

In May 15th Anvil was featured in Portfolio with an update note indicated that «It is believed that Anvil will be revealing a brand new ship in 2956 that industry insiders have described as “the future of modern naval warfare.»[5]. The same day a placeholder article on the Galactapedia revealed that the ship class was going to be named "Odin" [6].

CIG mentioned Battleships and Battlecruisers back in Lorebuilder 13 Lorebuilder 13
Usually consists of 1 Main Carrier, 2-4 Escorts and a varying number of large Combat/Support Vessels. Use numbers for designation (312th Battle Group). These are commanded by a Rear Admiral who reports to Regional Fleet Commander.

Capital ships designations:
CV = Fleet Carrier
CVE = Escort Carrier
BB = Battleship
CA = Cruiser
CB = Battlecruiser
DD = Destroyer
FF = Frigate
FFL = Frigate Light
K = Corvette
AP = Transport
AOG = Tanker

So battlecruisers have been around, just from what we have been given in terms of lore so far. So have battleships.

Analysis
From the above, a battlecruiser would be similar in size to an escort carrier. Escort carriers like the Pegasus are supposed to be about 900m long and carry 30 fighters
Bengal Carriers are currently about 990m long or about 1 km in length
Bengal Carriers are significantly larger of beam than the pegasus class when you exclude the "side pod" which might be the flight bay. If that is the case, I would expect a Battlecruiser to be narrower than the 450m beam of the Bengal, and shorter than the 200m height
The Javelin is 475x85/210
The Bangal is 990x200x450
The Pegaus is 900x?x? (speculation 125-150x300 (with side bay)
That would mean that a battlecruiser would be approximately 850-950m in length, probably closer to the 875-925m, and I would expect a 125-150m height and probably 275-325m beam)

SPECULATION
I would expect the battlecruiser to host multiple S11 or S11 or even one or two S12 guns as well as an impressive array of S12 or bigger torpedoes, S9 anti large ship weapons platforms, and significant numbers of S4 fighter protection guns along with PDS turrets. This is do doubt intended to be a capital ship killer.

I would expect a single Javelin to be completely outclassed by the Odin battlecruiser, but 3-4 javelins might be able to give it a run for its money.
In a similar vein, I would expect an Idris to melt under the fire of an Odin. It might get a few shots off, and those shots might do some damage, but it is unlikely that they will be killing blows
A Polaris or a Perseus will not match up. The Polaris has a chance if it can sneak up and nail it with shields and defenses down, but fully crewed, you would need a large number doing time on target firing to saturate defences.

In a similar vein, this will be one of the ships used in packs to hunt a Bengal. 4-5 might be able to swarm one of those under.

If Anvil produced a brand new battlecruiser, one would expect that if the UEEN needed the model, it would be purchased in large numbers, tying up production and making it unavailable for Civilian use. UNLESS...like some of the other ships like the Sabre, the UEEN declined to pickup the model due to some unknown reason. Remember, these are not older ships like the lore regarding the Javelins being retired. This is a brand new model. I highly suspect that there is a "problem" with the ship that the UEEN doesn't like. Maybe it's too slow, too thin in the armor department, guns are not strong enough, requires too many crew, etc.

This is the third (technically, the fourth) largest ship class the UEEN has, similar to the Pegasus in size, it would be smaller only to the Battleships (slightly smaller), Fleet Carriers (Bengal), and the SDF-3...sorry the UEE Retribution (one off)

Thus, instead of just writing off the cost of development, Anvil decided that they would just sell them to Civilians instead...

I would expect this to be expensive all, possibly in the range of 5-8k...prepare for MASSIVE amount of "pay to win" posts when this is revealed...

I think Lord Montoya should buy us one, for supporting him in those hair growth trials, all these years.

And here I am trying to decide if my Retaliator has too much of a crew requirement to be worth keeping for its limited mission capability.
I melted mine,

Never thoiught I would.

Hardly used it.

Sad times.

This is the biggest issue with SC. They want multiplayer gameplay, but they make multiplayer gameplay...I will use a nicer word and say....horrible.
A game that is already a game of long waits with nothing to do when playing solo...and now giving you less to do and make gameplay more restrictive (shoot the turret you are in, lock and fire the missiles, etc.) for less reward than you can get solo...

I think you need to reevaluate what counts as “reward”. Some players have a blast just hanging together and being mighty is just a perk. I think the bigger ships have their own rewards.

And I for one want to see an Anvil Cap ship. After what they did with the Paladin, they have my attention. That despite I still think the Pali turns too slowly.
