and it's basically a slightly overclocked RX400 series... with higher power consumption.

It's about 5-10% better performance accross the board, for ~15-20% power usage.

The price, is pretty much identical. $10 less officially, but the RX400s will drop I'm guessing.

I need an upgrade in GPU this year, currently running an HD7970. I've been looking at 8GB RX480s but didn't really want to pull the trigger for ~50% increase in performance. I most likely will skip over the RX580 as well, in this case, and still hope for a decently priced Vega *fingers crossed*

If that fails, well, I guess I'll go for a GTX1080 (not the Ti) because I keep seeing the prices drop, but I don't really like nVidia. Been with team Red since its ATI days... (had HD4850, HD5850, HD7970, and 2 more before that, that I don't remember what they were)

If you want something much more powerful than an RX480/580 and you don't want to spend much more money, try and pick up a Sapphire R9 Fury. Awesome for star citizen and I picked mine up brand new for the same price of a top end RX480.

They're hard to get hold of but if you can you won't be disappointed!!

Hehe I was only playing around use whatever you like best. In the past I just buy whatever is the best at the time be it amd, NVidia, intel, matrox, riva tnt, 3dfx. If its fast, I buy it.

At the moment it's all AMD as I need lots of OpenCl compute power and frankly NVidia are rubbish at that, and have been for several years. Last two Nvidia Cards I owned were a GTX480 and a GTX660 and after that I gave up on the jolly green giant.

Cards come and go, mostly NVidia are best for gaming and occasionally AMD, but I still buy the AMD cards, cos I need the compute POWAAAAAAHHHH
