Target Focus/Look Ahead/Target Reticle

Ok,
So, I'm binding up this damn HOTAS, and there are these Look Ahead and Target Focus settings...
Do I need them and if so, how are they used?

Target Focus: Will attempt to keep you focused on your target as long as it remains in you FOV. Will even zoom in for you.
Look ahead: Will act as a track IR, moving your field of view. Your stick controls a cursor that the ship attempts to follow.
Target Reticle: Changes your pips from leading to following.
