Ok folks... I know everyone has an opinion. I think that video game violence desensitizes the players... just like in the military. That said, only people who are not stable fall out, but unfortunately, we do not have a mechanism to enforce responses to bad behavior in video games like the military does. Since everyone is anonymous online they think they are immune to any negative consequences.. So normal people have to determine what behavior is acceptable and how we deal with these people. It was not long ago when Test - Namely Montoya -had a lot to say about VirtualAce and his game play. Was he a psychopath, I don't know, but he clearly had some issues. Even pirates have codes of conduct... and there are things that are socially acceptable. That is why I hope Star Citizen builds an AI to flag and marginalize bad behavior by players - being a pirate is a game play style, if you want to be treated like a psychopath that does not fit the play styles of the community, then you should not get missions and get targeted by both lawful and unlawful factions, making the game unplayable for people who do not contribute to the game in a positive way. My opinion.

They want to red flag veterans, why not red flag video game players? Do you get it now? No guns for people who play video games... Is that the logic here?

I'm not putting the blame on the game... the game like a gun is an object... it takes a person to abuse it or pull the trigger. Without the human the game or gun is nothing but a rock.

No, I don't get it. Are you advocating red-flagging video gamers or veterans? "they" who is they? the sentence after the 1980-2014 stats are sarcastic, as in that time we went from a 10.2 per 10,000 to a 4.5 per 10,000, at the same time going from video games being a side thing, to being very mainstream.

What does the title say? They = government and activists... I don't care about the stats... please give me the stats of 1980 then I will say there is no correlation between bad behavior and video games... last I looked atari pong wasn't used like COD.

That is not how the sentence read. The sentence read as you compared playing games to being in the military. like you could get some hard military PTSD from playing games. that is why I quoted the statistics. As video games have gained more and more of a following in the last 30 years there have been fewer and fewer murders per capita.

What does the title say? They = government and activists... I don't care about the stats... please give me the stats of 1980 then I will say there is no correlation between bad behavior and video games... last I looked atari pong wasn't used like COD.

This quote here reads as if you are comparing being in the military, and the psychological harm it could cause if equivalent to playing modern video games.

So you are saying the death of 4 people is ok? A necessary evil to video games? Each one of those people had a family, maybe children. I'd say 1 is too many.

Dude... the murder rate in the 1980s was 10.2! we are killing fewer people now than we EVER have been! ya, one death is too many. but people are people, they are going to kill each other. video game rise has correlated to a drop in the murder rate by 5.7 per 10,000 people! and that is AWESOME 5.7 lives saved per 10,000 by video games!

This is not rel·e·vant and not statically correct or honest. There needs to be a real correlation - measurable and directly linked.

Well, the first line was about "violence and video games" and then you ended with hoping that CIG "builds an AI to flag players bad behavior" ...

I think your "train of thought" jumped a couple of switches in between...it was hard to follow how the start and finish related to each other. And I read it twice!

The discussion is not the murder rate... it is the correlation between video games and people acting inappropriately in the gaming community. That said, there are probably not any less crazy people today than in 1980, but the correlation cannot be made for 1980 because there was NO INTERNET! We had places called "Arcades" where people would go and actually interact.

Ok... there is a lot to digest in that paragraph... if you go beyond the paragraph you get a TL;DR... because people today do not read anything.; they want a single sentence to debate something. This seems to filter into the political dialog... and people are becoming more divided than ever because we can't properly convey our thoughts in one paragraph. Life is too complicated. Human interaction is too complicated.

It is Correct and honest.... here you go. the crime rates. all of them.

and if that is not good enough data? what is your data? what are the "real numbers"? what would "real correlation" look like? I mean besides ALL THE NUMBERS BEING DOWN!

That is not where your original post or title implied. going back and reading it for the 10th time I can see that is what you were trying to do, but only after understanding what you were trying to attempt...

I do not see "Video Games" in that chart

That is not where your original post or title implied.
So normal people have to determine what behavior is acceptable and how we deal with these people.
What I mean by normal = not an outlier (people that seek to destroy the game and entertainment) that diminishes the game experience for players.

I am not going to change my "possibly" incoherent rant of a thread because it does not fit your world view... I meant what I meant.

Are you denying the rise of video games from 1980-now? I believe the argument is that the rise of (violent) video games is the reason we have such a violent society, so I don't need video games in the chart all I need to prove is that video games are not to blame does not lead to violent crime. So if video games are to blame for crime then why is the crime rates higher in the 1980s then now?
I am not going to change my "possibly" incoherent rant of a thread because it does not fit your world view... I meant what I meant.
it has nothing to do with my world view. I don't understand what you are trying to say. the original post is completely incoherent and every post since has been bouncing around more than the jello in Airplane. I can not agree or disagree with you because I don't know what you are claiming.
