Was wondering what everyone's opinion on this is.
If my math is correct, most players will have at least one multi-crew ship. Everyone will want to fly their ship, so who is left to crew?
$325M worth of ships exist, and there are years more to go, it's not unreasonable to assume 700M+ in ships by the time the game is released.
I realize there is 2.9M SC accounts, but I do not believe there are even close to 2.9M actual players. The verse will be so full of ships and not enough players to crew them.
So will most of these multi-crew ships be flown solo with npc? What's your take?
I am mostly heading towards NPC crew here. Got about 2 dozens package that will be made just for getting customized NPCs.
On average, i don't think most people would want to drop their own ships to play on multi-crew ships. At some point they need to get 100% fun out of playing the game, and multi-crewing is not always 100% rewarding. For example, you sit in a turret, but like half of the fight you have no enemy in sight, and so on.
I am betting on an average 4-5 people that would be available to crew the bigger ships i have, thanks to TEST number, just because many people do not have those bigger ships and would like to just hop on them to get some fun they wont have on their own.
But i doubt every owner of multi-crew ships here will get its crew slots filled just by asking in chat.
That's why, for ships like Polaris, Idris, Javelin, i bet we will see just around 20% of the ship being crewed by actual players.
And this is excluding call to arms operations of course, where number of players filling the crew slots is obviously higher, I am talking about your regular play session.
While lots proclaim their just wanting to support the development of the game I would wager that most are secretly wanting to pay to win or get a leg up on their perceived progression and will be disappointed as we get into beta (hopefully that disappointment is transient and they realize just how much fun can be had living the dream even if there is no ship stepping stones to top tier)
Here i have no shame admitting that when I buy more ships it is for pay to win, and getting a leg up above all. It is primarily based on calculations and maximizing what i can do with the little time i would be playing the game. I will not have the time to get those ships when i will be playing the game.
Then i have the development support in mind.
