There's also this element of we're all waiting on pins and needles for the game -- in large part because we've bought into the vision of the game enough to invest in it -- but we can't yet play it. So our way of prolonging the attachment and engagement to the game, short of being able to play it, is lusting after a new ship and (when our self-control falters) eventually buying it.

It's an addict's cycle, really. I'm sold on this game, and if they're gonna make me wait for the damn thing, by gum I'm gonna have to work hard to not keep buying more elements of the fantasy while I twiddle my thumbs.

Once the dogfighting module releases, assuming it's good enough I spend any time in it, I'm likely to be less tempted by buying new shiny.

Meanwhile Im at Walmart and cheaping out on the can of beans that cost 89c because last week it was 72c.

Should have bought low and sold high when you had the chance. For what it's worth, though, those beans are going for 98c over in the Rigellian system. How big's your cargo bay?

Gosh I hope the BMM isn't $250. They'd have to make it playable really soon if it was.

The fact that I was young when this thread was made and now I am old and I still don't have my BMM makes me sad.

When the ships game description was, "a sturdy ship passed down through the generations" but it was actually in reference to use passing down our star citizen pledges to our children in hope someday they'd make it playable?

I do believe you are on to something here.
Since that ship is a heritage it can and will only be avilable to Banu characters.
So only once you can roll a Banu as a char will you be able to commandeer one.
This fundamental part of the Banu Soul (Souli? Soulslike?) in the hands of humans?
This calls for a holy trade war!

Lucky me. I was already past expiration date when Chris pitched his idea for a game.
My one regret is that I only bought into the merchantman at 300$.
Been watching the price rise ever since.
Oh how I wish the stocks I bought into rose like that!

If there is one thing I learnt from working in investment banking, is the game is rigged /for some/ and for the rest it's just gambling

Intriguing differences in prices & expectations that a decade plus of waiting for a particular ship can make in its perception by players across the Verse. IF there was a flub by CIG to accidentally resell the BMM for $250 again, even if it only had 6 months insurance, I have no doubt that their servers that handle sales would overload more quickly than most Idris F5 battle last before their stock runs out.
