No CitizenCon this year (2026)

Just announced on Inside Star Citizen from 5/7/2026, there will not be a CitizenCon event this year. Not in person, not online. This is because they want to keep their eyes on the prize, which is getting SQ42 out the door.

CitizenCon takes a ton of time away from developers and key personnel. By eliminating that issue, they are much more likely to hit their goal of getting SQ42 released in 2026. To me, this means H2 if not Q4 or 2026 for SQ42...

So basically, instead of answering the "WHEN SQ42?!?" question in person for the (insert imensely huge number) time, they plan to answer the WHEN question by, dare I say it, releasing?
That's a new one.
Works for me though.
Can't wait for Chapter 1.
Of twelve.
Chapter 2 releasing around 2032.
Ha ha, just messing with you.
It's obviously 2034...

I'm actually hoping they hold off the release until early next year - Not because it gives them extra development time, but rather that it would put it further away from the November release of GTA6, which will be taking up most of the focus of the media and potential new player money.

Either that, or they plan (hope?) to release at the time that they would otherwise be holding Citizencon, getting in before GTA6.

GTA6 and SQ42 will not run on the same platform in the foreseable future
Except for the possibilllty that SQ42 might launch on the PS5 too.
Because there is money to be had on consoles.
(Half a billion per year for GTA5 Online on consoles. Not that CIG is lacking money but this is some serious temptation.)
And in that case they better hurry because no one wants to compete with any version of GTA on their hometurf.

Well they've gone back on every other promise they ever made so they'll probably go back on the no consoles promise too!
