Looks stunning, I can't wait to fly it and do some hauling with it.

However, it's launching during very buggy period for the PU, so unless 4.8.2 next week is much more stable than 4.8.1 has been I think there is going to be more attention from backers on general stability and playability than on shiny new ships. Shame. I really like this one.

Wow looks very rule of cool.

Mind you read the youtube comments I've never seen such vicious comments towards CIG on a new ship vid.

Damn. Now I am conflicted.
I wanna ask @Swordfishtrombones on my knees and in a tear-drenched fashion for one of his tickets for this seems too good an opportunity to pass up.
On the other hand this is a hauler.
And I do almost as little hauling as I do mining.
So getting a Railen would be a pointless purchase.
Better leave it for someone who is actually short on cash.
(I earned the golden underwear during Defence Con so I am sure that there are comrades around that are more pressed for cash than I am.)
Cudos though for this inspiring display of generosity. :o7:

If you change your mind, let me know. Turns out I have 4 of them in total and have 2 left to gift. (I got my flashy pants this DefenseCon as well :D)

It's really quite sad getting rid of the old terrapin - I did love that ship but sadly I've waited 9 years and it still doesnt actually do anything useful in the verse or have any of it's promised functionality.

Sadly that is the route CIG have forced us down by continually releasing newer and better and ships and completely ignoring us who bought ships 10 years ago. That was the last of my old ships, Freelancer, Starferer, Retaliator, Vanguard, Terrapin, Carrack All gone. All melted/replaced with something actually modern and useful with in game functionality that works.

A bittersweet upgrade for sure. But that should not take away from the great generosity shown in this thread - Thanks Swordfishtrombones

My pleasure! Glad someone could use it. I already have most fleet pretty much where I want it, have a Railen and didn't want to melt the CCU's for credit. If it releases broken, it's not my fault! ;)

This is not in Erkul yet, but I would note to you that it at present appears if you own a pair of Anvil Centurions, you could mount their quad S4 remote turrets on this ship and double its firepower. Worth noting.

So from now on you can replace manned turrets with unmanned ones?.
How do you fire them? From the Engineering station?
Do the copilots gain turret controls in their seats?
Or are they, dare i dream it, ALL slaved to the pilot?
Imagine that kind of firepower!

No, you can only replace manned with manned and remote with remote. I thought the turrets on the Railen were remote. If they are manned, you can’t use the turrets from the Centurion. You could try pulling quad S4s off the Hammerhead. I’m sure there are others.

Just took her out for a spin. Some notes.

It's huge - do not raise the landing gear inside a large hangar.

Power plant is poor - not enough pips to go round. If you want full shields you got no guns or engines. Gonna have to buy some deadbolts.

Reasonably quick in a straight line.

Not so quick at turning.

Huge cargo.

Interior is rule of cool amazing but we still dont know what any of the buttons do without pressing them and there seems to be a lot of wasted space for fish tanks etc.

Exterior is stunning too.

thanks to @Swordfishtrombones I got me a Railen now.
And an Upgrade for that Tyilui, but that's for later.
Really nice ship. Though you should heed the epilepsy warnings before you go into external view. There's a lot of lighting involved.
Weird fact considering that it is rather gloomy on the inside.
Kinda wondering though if that ship was planned around S4 engines initially.
There's way too little power pips to go around.
Oh well, gotta do one or two Redeemer Salvage jobs to get them balistic repeaters. And the white paintshop because otherwise those guns look weird. That should help and you don't wanna fly that one into prolonged battles anyways.
Also, white and flashy lights are always a great idea...

I think the problem is, S3 reactors do not have 3-4x the power of S2 reactors. I have long wondered why S3 top out at 25 pips when S2 stealth reactors are putting out 18 and military put out 21. S3 reactors really should be delivering more like 70. This causes a lot of problems for the larger ships.

True dat. Considering the size difference one would expect at least double the output.
Then again, PIPs are what the powerplant can deliver minus what the ship consumes beforehand. Might be a bigger ship has much more basic needs?
Never really finished my Engineering diploma, so I wouldn't know... 🤗
