Wait, but 4.9 was already basically devoid of content, and now even that's getting pushed back?
So what's left in 4.9 is.. tweaks to Valakkar, new cosmetics, audio improvements, tweaks to missile physical representation, tweaks to combat UI... Like the main thing of the patch seems to be a gun and some new contracts.

At least we now have almost twice as many patches per year as before, but some of these patches are just exceedingly 'meh'
I guess everyone is focusing on SQ42, let's just hope we'll get more robust patches again when that's done and dusted

And the new armor but yeah, bit disappointing for 4.9. However, if it means a significant reduction in the issues introduced in 4.8 then that's okay.

Getting the stability of the user experience to what it was in 4.7.x (or ideally quite a bit better) makes more sense than releasing content which would be impacted by the same issues as other parts of gameplay. Personally, I am more interested in some new system and gameplay features than new content: the transit system refactor, better safeguards for player inventory and dynamic server meshing. Next on the list for me are maelstrom and the long-running flight model updates.

I wonder how much of the company's effort across all departments is on SQ42, how much on SC, how much on whatever the next single-player game is going to be called, and how much on general bug-fixing/system development/fire-fighting that isn't specific to any one of them. I imagine the narrative team have well-developed plans for the next single-player game but hold on to them lightly until we learn whether the SQ42 story is good and whether the game sells enough make the next one viable. Common sense and other game releases suggest the part of CIG working on SQ42 will continue to work on SQ42 updates after it comes out to fix stuff that wasn't caught internally before initial public live release, and to add post-release updates for a while. And then one assumes a lot of that team will transition to SQ43* rather than SC.

*Not absolutely guaranteed to be the next single-player campaign's name.

For me what they put in now doesn't matter - thy screwed this patch so hard game is literally entirely unplayable jerky buggy mess with problems with every mission type or play stile currently. It's not worth my time. My god - pre 4.8 we had it so good and I did not play enough in that era of smoothness and stability. What a mistake.

Na.... I think naming of episodes is pretty much set in stone.
SQ42: No need for a name yet
SQ42 II: Vengeance ot the Vanduul
SQ42 III: Heart of the oversized Genestealer
SQ42 IV: The prize of free Loot
SQ42 V: In hindsight we might have guessed

PS: New stuff can wait until 5.7 as long as they get the servers stable and the NPCs responsive again. Right now it's more a shoting range with an occational instant death thrown in. Kinda frustrating, really.
And that whole Xenothreat gig is kinda a joke, right? If not for the blueprints why would anyone bother with those missions?

I didn't play as much pre 4.8 either, but I haven't had as much trouble in the 4.8 patches as some. Must be a function of what you try to do. I've been able to complete a lot of cargo hauling rep grind missions without major headaches. Besides a griefer at Port Tressler, broken cargo elevators are the most annoying thing I've repeatedly run into, but I've usually found one that worked sooner or later. I'm loving the Railen - it's practical and nice to fly.

That said, I am massively looking forward to better cleanup of abandoned ships, especially if that indirectly helps with some of the latency issues that are impacting other areas of gameplay. I hope it's not too long until missions and cargo persist when you sign out (or get disconnected) and sign back in again, even if you end up on another server. I don't know how people are wedging rocks and such into doorways and on ASOP terminals, but that sort of nonsense could do with being prevented.

Which issues impacted you the most?

The fact that I can no longer loot abandoned or crashed ships.
That was a prime source for NDBs and stuff.
Oh well, prevents duping, I get it.
But seeing all the good stuff just lying around aand still out of reach makes my eyebrows twitch something nasty... 😅

Being able to take out a big ship and properly scavenge the good pieces will be magical! :D

You shouldn't be able to loot them but you should still be able to get paid for scrapping them without getting a crimestat otherwise we end up with bloody ships absoloutly everywhere which is stupid and degrades the servers and client fps and everything.
