So, I melted my Gladiator for a Vanguard (I'll get a Gladiator in game, anyways), but I can now carry Torps! Also, deep space, long range! My Vanguard will be named "The Aiur", so I can give my life for it.

I would imagine that exploration is something akin to a raid. You have 24 hours (or whatever) to go as deep as you can. Send scouts ahead to see what it's like. Are there Vanduul waiting in the wings? Perhaps a fanatical, homicidal cult of Xi'An who lust for the blood of humans? Maybe just...
