Virpil restock and Constellation Alpha pre-order and Sunlight Dynamics 6DOF stick

Wow. But again no chair mount. I am annoyed. Color me annoyed. Annoyed I am, I say. ANNOYED!!! It's a funny word, like "turtles". Just feels funny in the mouth.

What do you look for in SC spaceships these days?

If you find elk that have no sage in their diet, it is very hard to tell from beef.

    Ship for dangerous traderoutes

Thanks for this. I was not aware. It will be interesting to see if you can carry just one big fuel tank, or perhaps two if you're gathering both kinds of fuel, and have the rest available for cargo. Then you can refuel your fighter escorts as needed, refine more fuel as needed, etc. I have...

    Ship for dangerous traderoutes

I'm not familiar with any stats for main engine acceleration, but I think even unladen, the SF takes more on the order of a full minute to reach top speed. That's just from watching the vids. It takes 4.5 seconds to turn 90*, while the Vanguard takes about 1.1 seconds. It is unfortunate that...

    Ship for dangerous traderoutes

I think we've confused several issues. We were speaking of the SF, not the StarG. I would not attack a StarG with a single Hoplite. Maybe with a Sentinal. The StarG has an S8 turret and S3 missiles. However, it has greatly reduced cargo, and I doubt you could use it as a hauler for other...

    Ship for dangerous traderoutes

Okay so, if it were me, I likewise would not want to attack anything as large as an SF with just one ship. I actually theorycrafted an outline for 3 Vanguards attacking in small groups about a year or so ago, and I think I did a scenario with a Warlock and a Cutty, but I'll indulge again this...

    Ship for dangerous traderoutes

There are lots of ways to attack an SF. We don't know enough details about what the actual situations will be yet to say I'd choose one over another, but for example, when CIG was asked whether shields mitigate spike missile damage, they did not answer. It's entirely likely the missile...

    Ship for dangerous traderoutes

Last I heard the plan is still to treat distortion damage from weapons, spike missiles (Arrester IIIs) and EMP all the same--they don't damage ship's components at all. Distortion weapons will go against shields first, but then go to the computer and everything run by the computer will go down...

    Ship for dangerous traderoutes

You're convincing me. I am however, still leery of the Drake reputation of fielding tissue paper. Most would need to be quite crazy to attack a Kraken for financial gain, so perhaps there mere presence of the thing is enough to dissuade. Simplest though might be a Hull E with an Idris flying...

    Ship for dangerous traderoutes

I was thinking that too! but if you're going to go that high a price for a transport, I think the Idris is probably a better choice. It can land on terrestrial surfaces, so you skip the entire loading/unloading stage of transport which is fraught with peril. The Idris really is a superb hauler...

    Ship for dangerous traderoutes

If you load the entire nose of the Hoplite with distortion, it does almost 20k DPS. The Starfarer's shields are about 90k, so with the current numbers a Hoplite needs to have a helpless SF within 1,500 meters for less than 5 seconds to knock it senseless. This is leaving the 3s Arrester...

    Ship for dangerous traderoutes

You didn't say how many players would be crewing. IMHO, it would be unwise to fly any of those alone. Someone will just take it from you. IIUC, AI and NPCs are all slated to be less capable as turret gunners than real players, and NPCs can't serve two roles, so they're no good to fight if...

What do you look for in SC spaceships these days?

It's definitely designed to run from a fight. If you don't plan to use the Runner's computers, and you have any notions of fighting with the ship, I would look long and hard at the Corsair, but just like all ships this size, if you fly it alone you should expect trouble. I think people don't...

Vanguard is a beast of a tank

Just because people can do it wrong doesn't mean it can't be done right. SC is predicated on the notion that ship customization will make fantastic differences in various kinds of performance, and it really does. There is no one size fits all solution, and should not be, but there are various...

    Nautilus brochure and related data

No, I think it is just 3, S4 racks, so 2XS3 per rack or 6 S3 total. If you want 24 missiles you can do that with all S1, but I don't like those smallish missiles. Bigger is better.

    Piracy Piracy Division/Squadron Organization Brainstorm

I get that, but you can always crew on one. Each of us individually owning so many ships when what we need are several players for a single ship is really unnecessary. And there are permanent loaner ships. The Outsiders wants to loan us their ships of all kinds. And there are slavers and...

    Piracy Piracy Division/Squadron Organization Brainstorm

I think the most privateery ships until the Polaris comes out are the Sentinel, Hoplite, and next patch the Prowler. Still no official word on what the extra room is for upstairs, and whether they'll really add missiles, but the Prowler always offered great hope for us poor, downtrodden...
