I just shoot cockpits and engines with ballistics, lol. I don't really care if their side shields are low. Up against larger ships I shoot turrets, cockpits, and engines. Whatever the enemy hands me first, then I try to disable my choice or replan if needed.

You can rotate your shields or change how powerful each face is, it's just not like the Tevarin shields where it's the only option. I've been manipulating shields since 2.1 and I normally have a HAT bound to it or a keypad
