Hello, fellow Crash Test Dummies.

I just bought Dungeon of the Endless on recommendation and thusly fell into a Steam coupon for 50% off Endless Space. Endless Space is a relatively new 4x space game that some people love, others don't love, and some are indifferent about. I played it for an intensive 120 hours back when it was in beta, and most definitely got my money's worth from it back before they'd even worked out some of the kinks.

IMO, the interface of the game is gorgeous. It's one of the few 4X games that doesn't become overly difficult to conduct empire management in. I personally like the innovative combat system, though ship design and combat in Endless Space are admittedly areas that many 4X afficionados have had mixed opinions about.

In any event, it's a pretty good game and it's possible it might even be as great a game for you as it was for me.

The coupon's up for grabs. The award will go first to one of the folks putting hard hours into running this organization, if any of them want it. If none of them do, then I'm looking at rolling a die, putting people's names in a hat and seeing which one my cat picks out, or configuring my thrusters so they make me spin wildly as I throw a dart at a wall filled with your avatars. Bonus points for completely nonsensical responses.

I haven't played Sins, but my impression is that Sins is much more about ship design and fleet management. If Sins is tactical, Endless Space is strategic. The focus of your play will be on sector/galaxy management, growing through your tech tree, building star system enhancements, and maximizing your resource output.

Prior to the expansion, diplomacy was relatively non-existent. I don't know where it's at now. You get to custom-design and upgrade ships, but it's much less involved than a game focused on that. I found combat to be enjoyable in a 'hoping I don't need better upgrades' way, and it has some live decision elements, but combat's a strategic affair, not tactical.

The game is gorgeous, the music lovely, and I had to stop playing it because I didn't find it possible to go to bed earlier than 3am while playing the game and I saw far too many unslept sunrises for someone as old and hard-at-work as I am.
