is there any division in TEST SQUADRON that makes good use of 890 Jump, Phoenix & Genesis star liner?
Hungry...sorry Huniken I dont believe there is, but I think that would be cool for TEST meetings and partys. Maybe not a whole division though.

Why not a whole division? We will need those to transport Marines into and outside of the hot zones! Also VIP transportation is a thing in SC, besides those, Blue Collar workers like the miners in an Orion needs a transport service, like @Just Jake said, Bus drivers (Freelancer Max/Cutlass) can provide this service :)

It is part of logistics but transporting people seems not to be of a major topic here.

I'm sure there will be a transporting/trader division since that is a major career of SC. In the mean time its part of the Rock raiders group.

You got a good point, I was just thinking of entertainment not military transport, but that would lean more to the yellow jacket division because of combat, right?

Good thing I'm in Rock Raiders :)
Yes there will be a division for everything!

We are not starting more divisions until the actual game play aspect of it is available in the game.
Aha! Well that's settled then, 3.0 will be a bucket load of an update, time will pass quickly until then. o7

Yes if for combat such as military boarding/drop ship ops, troop transport and LZ extraction/drop off infiltration missions (like in metal gear). Also prisoner transport for military/bounty hunting.

Civilian wise, mass tourism/travel, VIP transport missions & blue collar workers to drop off at work locations.

Transport covers a lot of different areas.

Logistics - getting materials from one place to another (mine/resource gatherer to refinery, refinery to manufacturer, manufacturer to market)
Passenger - getting people from one place to another (without combat). Can be broken down into classes (no frills/basic, standard, 1st class, and ultra luxury). This would include fixed route and charter.
Cargo - could be considered part of logistics, but also just moving someone else's junk from one place to another
Military - moving troops and materials from a stockpile/depot to the ships/bases that use them (could also be under Logistics)
Ship - Moving ships from one place to another (Moving your entire fleet from Crusader to ArcCorp? Might want help...)
Combat - moving troops and materials from bases to front lines.
Medical - Transport of patients from injury cite to medical facility and between medical facilities
Piracy - moving the loot from the *cough* "newly discovered wreck" or the stuff found floating in space that "must have fallen off the back of that Connie" to your fence

Lots of places each of these fits (Yellow Jackets, Rock Raiders, Medical, IRS) and Montoya could leave it there, or set up a division that oversees it all, or some combination thereof. Waiting to see how it all unfolds...

That sums it up, I knew TEST SQUADRON IS BEST SQUADRON!

Alright, I can go relax in my hangar looking at my Star-G/Freelancer for now, at least until the Carrack or 890 Jump comes out.

You do have a point there, but IMO we'd need something like a dedicated Transport Division for people that just move stuff from A to B without having them bother with logistics and what-not.

I'm guessing there will be an NPC transport service for moving between systems without flying your own ship

Board transport, log off, log back on, disembark at your destination

Taking hours to cross the galaxy is not fun gameplay

Which is why I listed "Cargo" as a type of transport

Not trying to organize a division, not trying to do anything really other than lay out what types of game play/transport needs I see based on what we have seen so far in game and what we have heard Mr. Roberts say. Obviously, some may not come to pass, may be implemented after launch, or may be cut after launch because it's "not fun" What the org does is up to Montoya and the rest of the org officers.

Honestly, I think a lot will have to do with how many people actually end up playing the game, and how big the cargo needs are. If most of the hauling is Harvested Resource to refinery/market (which includes resources acquired through...alternative...means) and maybe just a little bit of cargo hauling, then maybe the leadership team will organize it one way. If it turns out the majority of the game is hauling stuff from one place to another and protecting it enroute, then that's a completely different can of worms and I suspect things will be organized a different way. Heck, I can see one scenario (unlikely though it may be), where a hauling division is basically in charge of the other divisions merely by fact that without the hauling division, nothing else can get done.
Hauling is key to everything...Yellow Jackets are assigned as part of the HAUL (Huge and Unwieldy Loads) Division as permanent escorts/scouts. Rock Raiders base their big mining expeditions on the availability of HAUL, and exploration is looking for the best/safest/cheapest routes for HAUL to transport goods. IRS bases their missions on the availability of HAUL, etc.

Do I see this as what will happen? Absolutely not. I suspect there is a .0001% chance this is how things will turn out, but is is one scenario. Without more information to go out, the leadership team will have little chance to make the right decisions on how to organize things. Even with 3.0 and transport becoming a gameplay feature, I don't think it will be in the final form. Much as I would love to see things get set early on, I don't think we will have too much more than a basic framework for anything until half-way through beta, and even then we will have to make adjustment as the game moves through to release and beyond.
