In my experience, the cam functionality is what is lacking in free and open source programs.
For example, the guy who produces your stuff might have tooling that works best or only with solid works drawings.

You can also do tons of simulation like temperature or force. And then there is integration with the other tooling. For example if the part you are designing has wires in it and you need to make room for that, making sure the bending radius is fine etc.

There is a lot more to it though, certification aid and such...

Rhinoceros 3d is the tits, but its $pendy if you don't sail the high seas...I learned originally on that, then moved over to SolidWorks...but I miss it dearly.

I'll give this one a shot when i get home what is your question on it though? One that i tried to use that is very similar though is "Sketchup" there are alot of tutorials for it also. I never did get use to using these types of cad programs though hell i'm not even that good with autocad. https://www.sketchup.com/
