I love this stuff. Though I like RP, I don't want to be controlled by the requirement to constantly foster immersion. I prefer more laid back. They're all Skunkworks, so they've done dozens of mil sim missions together. They all speak the same language and they're all super clear communicators. Once you get those skills down you don't need to be a hard-ass about immersion.
I love that they have a ship uniform. For myself, I would prefer an undersuit with light torso piece just because you're suited up for EVA in a jiff, and IIRC; you still need at least a torso piece to wear a backpack, which is super useful when shopping, and just moving stuff around ship. I wouldn't want to break the minor immersion by wearing a backpack all the time, but it's easy to then throw one on if you're in port or otherwise need one. Also, suit and breastplate is pretty much Rebel fighter uniform (orange and white), so that's cool. To EVA, all you need is plop on a helmet, which you can store by the airlock. Additionally, it can't hurt to always carry a knife, pistol, multi-tool, hacking card, etc. (Replace the knife and pistol with a Vanduul Plasma Lance when in game) I don't think you can do this with a simple jumpsuit. Note according to the FPS calculator, you can carry this much and still move at 100%, which is key if you get jumped.
I think it's a keen observation that when you store all your stuff aboard ship in order to live out of it, protecting the ship rises to a new level, and that makes for good play, IMHO. I have to wonder what it will be like to do all this on a ship made for twice as many players, or four times as many. I think the immersion is going to climb with every player and NPC moving about a ship.
Still no footage of a player in the copilot super-seat. Wait, what?!
