Constellation Conversation

I've started thinking about picking up a Constellation, and got interested about how populous we already are with them. So what's the word: got a Connie? Thinking about getting one? Want to crew one?

Let's have a Connie Conversation.

Connies are neat, but they aren't really my style. I'm more inclined to run a larger ship, or a smaller, gunship-style craft.

I have one, my interest will be in the bigger ships in the longrun. Still trying to work out a feasible way we can get the multi-crew ships manned, sure we will have AI and I trust they will do a 'decent' job but I am about absolutes here, I want the best gunner, the best pilot the best best best!

Well someone would need to be best on my ship while I booze :D

I just love the look and feel of the Connie. She's got nice lines and feels just large enough to not feel cramped, but large enough to pose a huge threat.

It'll be interesting how the AI stacks up and if there is an RPG element there for them to gain skill and level up.

It'll be even more interesting to see how I'm going to crew my Tali because it has a lot more turrets :P

With the amount of Constellations we have, I don't really wanna spend the dosh on getting another. But I'll always be game to be a crew member.

Since I haven't had a chance to test out how badly I fly, and will probably fly like a drunken, spastic, blind man with epilepsy I'll just stick to crewing one...if I'm even allowed on board one admitting my crappy coordination.

There are always going to be more connies than crew. I'm hoping the variants can help alleviate some of that. I'd heard a rumor about a carrier version where it will increase the number of merlins that it carries. A merlin is nearly as good as an aurora. Connies are going to be the backbone of our fleet, as much as we'd like to believe Auroras are. Now we're certainly going to need Auroras flying support, but those connies are going to be flying support for the big boys. Like it or not, having members being able to jump into an NPC on a connie and take out a merlin to join a battle they couldn't get to in time is going to be big. Even for those of us that own the big ships, we're going to need to be prepared to jump in and help people as crew. Maybe when the PU goes live we can have a separate chat channel dedicated to SOS, crew needed emergencies.

Remember the important factor in the battle instances they have talked about. So far they are saying the max numbers in each wont be based on ships/shipsize but based on players - this is going to have a large impact on tactical planning for any engagement we may need to play for. Do we want 5 hornets or one fully screwed Connie? Of course - with everything SC related time will tell ;)

I'm pretty excited to see the variants and changes they're making.

I want mine to be combat capable, but have a sort of rustic atmosphere like the Serenity. I also plan on getting the Redeemer (maybe by upgrading or melting) once it's available.

Everybody's likening the connie to the serenity, but isn't serenity almost starfarer-sized?

Who'd want to sit in a gunner seat when they could fly their own ship around as air support? I suppose saving money on fuel could be a reason. Does the constellation have docking capabilities with some of the smaller ships?

It has docking collars. There are actually a bunch of ships with them. Auroras, 300 series, cutlass, and a few others all have docks.

Nice. That's kinda sexy. I've got a 325A in the hangar so it's good to know I can dock and drink a few beers while you fly me around. I like this plan more and more.

You likely won't be able to fly around with ships docked externally, only for internal docks such as an idris or other fighter-carrying ship.

Why do you say that?

Word was, the devs didn't want the ships flying about while docked via collars as it was creating "issues". Might be outdated, but if that hasn't changed, then the only way you'll be able to fly about with two ships is if one of them is landed internally, like a p52 on the connie.

hrm. Thinking about melting my SuperHornet to get a Connie in the upcoming variant sale. Can't tell if that's a crap idea or not. The SuperHornet is a limited edition hull, but it's mostly going to be used for dogfighting, armed escort missions, armed passenger missions, etc.

The Connie's a superior all-around ship, but will be more expensive to fly in terms of paying for NPC crew and all the maintenance.

In addition to the SuperHornet, I already have a 315p for exploration and zippy travel.

What are your drunken opinions?
