So the new targeting data is out. If you open Erkul, the radar that comes with each ship is no longer locked. You can replace it with anything in its size class: S1, S2, S3 or S4. There are some interesting bugs here. Right now the Idris has its own radar and it is only S3. Expect this to change.

If you look at the radar where it displays on your ship page once it is selected, there is a big number on the right that gives you the max distance the radar will provide precision targeting. So best in class now, before CIG makes five years of changes

S1 V801-11 1326m
S2 SNS-R7s 1925m
S3 DEVOUR 2526m
S4 Polaris 4102m

There is enormous variability inside each class (typically around 400m) so if you use precision targeting, you will likely want the upgrade. Note the Zeus ES has 600m over the Zeus CL, all inside the range of their S3 and S4 guns.

Still waiting on someone to confirm whether the friend/foe setting that links radars shares this level of data, but I think it would be difficult to not work. Sharing radar without sharing radar seems dopey to me.

This same sort of thing will soon show up for personal radar, so embrace it as a skill to master.

And yes, all that lovely range on the Strife weapon is wasted. You won’t find any S2 weapons mounts of ships carrying S4 radar. Likewise note there are 7 parameters on every radar, but only the precision targeting range varies from radar to radar. Expect in the future these other parameters to change and give you more reasons to choose one over another, and to modify these through crafting.

There are very likely no ships sporting larger radars that can beam the target for others while dancing around. The Terrapin only pulls 3 gees strafe, while the Arrow pulls 10 gees. The Tracker lists an S1 selection. It really needs to be a stunt pilot, flying within 1,300m and “illuminating” the target for others. The Fury is not nimble enough, only 6 gees. Arrows and Avengers welcome. Ships like the Razor EX are stealthy enough with everything off, to fly inside 1,300m undetected; but that is EVERYTHING off, including radar.

My prediction for the “deck fighter” meta is back to the Arrow, probably wearing all Deadbolts.

The Tracker lists an S1 selection.
I assume the Tracker is only listed with the standard Hornet MKII radar. NOT with the Tracker radar module that still lacks function.
Same with the radar of the Turtle.
Interestingly enough the Zeus MKII ES has a Size 3 Radar and the Cutter Scout got a Size 2.
Thats the only ships I found that actually pull off that "larger radar because scout" thingadingy.
To bad both ships are probably not something you'll show up with for a battle.

Actually the Turtle got an S2, which is what encouraged me to look up the Tracker, which has had no luvs forever. This was a great chance to set it right and apparently they forgot her. Turtle Power!, though.

This almost fits here so I’ll mention again, I am fully annoyed CIG nerfed the differences between the size radar, the coefficients for which used to be 0.5, 0.75, 1.0 and 1.5. They diminished the differences to 0.7, 0.8, 0.9 and 1.0. There should be much, much more difference between the steps, IMHO.
