Hey Testers.

After purchasing upgrades for a ship, do those upgrades get saved when you have to file a claim to repair and replace it? or does it always reset to the "factory defaults", and have to purchase upgrades again?

If you're referring to in-game equipment upgrades then yes. There currently isn't an equipment insurance system so when a claim is filed all attached upgrades are lost.

It is doubtful that you will ever be able to insure custom components. That is CIGs long term, main source of revenue. We blow up each other's stuff and then we pay to replace our own.

Clever that.

Big ships that are highly customed with all manner of special components obtainable only thorugh very difficult missions are going to become the big bragging items of the 'Verse. Some things you won't be able to buy and because of that some ships are going to become legendary.

Quite the contrary, CIG recently released a statement saying that components have the possibility to be insured in the future. The source was from the Idris upgrade kit discussion.

Yeah, I saw the Idris discussion, but it did not sound like a policy decison for anything other than the Idris, and I find it very long odds CIG will cut their own finances by doing the opposite of what they've always said they will. So though it will be nice if they do insure components, don't count on it. If you depend upon it now you'll just be angry later.

What they see as their ultimate revenue source is selling ships, components, NPCs and insurance. They'll use whatever mix gets the the best value without a player revolt.

Insurance for ship components has been mentioned in quite a few videos from CIG as something that is planned but has yet to be explained as to how it'll work.

I could imagine with ship component insurance that there would be a very slight but measurable decline in overall quality with the replacement components so that eventually you would have to purchase or otherwise acquire new ones
