What are your thoughts on the new radar system coming out next week?

I personally really like the direction CIG are going. But, would be kinda cool if each ships radar in a party would automatically daisy chain to give additional benefit for working as a team. That way non combat ships like the Terrapin could be lurking about giving assistance to their combat buddies. This could allow people in combat the ability to transfer power from radar to other systems (weapons, shields, etc) giving them a slight advantage at the risk that if the Terrapin got shot down this would temporarily expose them mid battle with less or no radar depending on the number of pips assigned to radar at the time.

Hopfully, radar specific ships/exploration ships would have longer radar distances so they wouldn’t need to be in the heat of battle so much but could max out friendly combat ship pip ranges through this daisy chain effect.

Not certain if I’m overlooking something here but could add an additional layer of fun.

It's a shame it's taking them so long - they could do simple things that only rewuire a few easy clicks of the programming mouse such as making the terrapins radar range significantly further and giving it the ability to see mining materials or rock types without having to go to scan mode - something that actually makes it worth while taking the terrapin out. Of course we need a way of pinging/saving/sharing something that we find which they could/should have implemented 5 years ago to make teamwork more useful.

The current friend or foe radar sharing should automatically give the best look from any ship in a group to the entire group, allowing all others to reduce their radar power. We’ll find out in a few days. All radar sharing will likely be the same. What I’d like to see is the interferometric radar linking we have on the F35 and drones that forms a synthetic aperture by linking all the ships in a group—sensor fusion. I’m sure CiG knows what this is and it shouldn’t be very hard to program. That would enable hugely increased sensitivity so that S4 results could be had from a handful of S1 radars. That’s actually how the F35’s radar works.

BTW, anyone else see that F35 tanked an Iranian missile hit, stayed operational and landed safely? That is shocking. Tough little bird.

Agreed! It would be cool if you could scan an area (asteroids to mine, ships to salvage, etc), save that data and make those runs later in the day or week. I ‘think’ that CIG have eluded to this as a possible feature, as well as selling those scans to other players on some kind of in-game marketplace. That unfortunately isn’t such an easy ask as it pertains to coding timeframe.

Others know a lot more about this than I do. In fact @Shadow Reaper is our resident fount of knowledge on all things involving scanning.
