So I tried a couple small drops of maple syrup. As suggested by Sir @maynard. Twas delicious. I may have over-imbibed that evening. Oops.

I'm currently just cracking into a bottle of Laphroaig.the peat in that is intense. She's smokey. And delicious. I'm definitely an Islay man.

Honestly, I can’t stand the smell of peat. I know some love it, I don’t. Just leaves more for you.
For me, bourbon is better...although I only drink a max of one and usually only one every few weeks. Jefferson makes a good one, it if you can find it, the William Larue Weller wheated bourbon is excellent. I’ve only been able to find 2 bottles of it over the past 6 years though.
