Anyone else out there obsessed with technology? I find myself constantly on youtube and other manufacturer sites researching all the newest technologies and such. What's the newest tech you have looked into recently?

The Cinematic Lightfield Camera. The technology behind it is amazing but the real-world use for it is still to be determined, as the videos that I could find were more marketing than actual explanation of how it will work. To most people it might look like magic but there were important details omitted about practical uses. I've seen a video where they said that it has tons of cool features for post processing, yet the result they showed did not use any of those key features, all was done in traditional digital post processing. Also the short video demonstrating the "depth screen" is not impressive at all, the results are like a 12 year old's first attempt at Adobe AfterEffects... And the whole setup is way too big to be useful, and you can't just compact light so it takes up less space, like you could do with a traditional digital camera. So I'm kinda disappointing so far.
I'm a VFX artist so I need to know about new technologies that might change the way I work, so I try to keep track of those mostly. This one seems like a gimmick that will pass, just like VR will.
And ofc I love space stuff :D And gaming and the usual tech stuff like phones and VR. And 3D printing. So yeah, I guess I am a little obsessed with tech :D
Also I'm a petrolhead and love everything that's mechanical and moves or flies, I'll be researching next how that posi-trac thingy works :D

I just briefly looked into it via the link you provided, and I agree that it is a very cool concept, but like you said, I fear it will only be a concept and not practical.

I work in the technology installation field. I do a lot of video conference room installs. We mostly do network infrastructure but I am an AV specialist. If you want to see stuff that is actually coming out check out videos from infocomm. It was just a couple of weeks ago.

Something I recently saw is POE speakers that get addressed as network devices. No longer needing Daisy chained zones. You could use a web interface and turn speakers on and off as the space and situation requires.
