We mostly managed the issues in the INFITAC thread so I thought I’d risk two minutes to see if we can have a peaceful discussion.

Full Disclosure: I’m a fan of Charlie. As a trained philosopher, I enjoy to see the open mic offered first to opposed opinions. I’ve watched dozens or hundreds of hours of Charlie’s open mic meetings across America as well as enjoyed his address to the Oxford Union Society. I just like him.

Every news source is now blowing up for days. Even people who know nothing of Charlie are making vids that go viral. I’m not too much concerned to correct these vulgar, demonstrations of ignorance except to note the mindless tribalism they embody.

For myself, I’m mostly interested in correcting the Conservatives. They need to stop blaming “they”. I’m flabbergasted just how many pundits are blaming “they” for murder. Just for the record, “they” did not kill anyone. One maladjusted adolescent who had been very recently radicalized killed Charlie Kirk. It’s a case study in radicalization to be sure, but agency and responsibility still go to one person. There is no guilty “they”. At least “they” are not guilty of murder.

“They” have used a lot of rhetoric that is over the top, which did indeed radicalize this kid. Call anyone enough names over long enough time, and eventually you’ll get people to believe it. “They” are guilty of hyperbole, and grandstanding, and name calling, and probably quite a lot of deliberately dishonest mischaracterization. “They” however didn’t pull a trigger. True, “they” celebrated the dastardly deed after it was done, and rationalized it, and justified it, all while proving “they” had never seen Charlie in action and had no idea what he did for a living. “They” demonstrated no knowledge of open mics giving preference to anyone who wants to disagree. “They” are not concerned with such things. Like facts.

C’est domage. “They” could have learned a lot from Charlie Kirk. The Conservatives as well, if they would just stop accusing “they” of murder.
