Good update. Its understandable that CIG is unhappy about leaks. They have a business to run. As with any business, employees most likely have an employment contract that includes a confidentiality agreement that leads them to follow management guidelines on information releases. If an employee doesn't want to follow that, contractually they should resign.

Zyloh should have left it with that IMHO. His attempt at a softer explanation about developers affected by ruined surprises led to tangential discussion about how CIG owes backers visibility into spending on new concepts vs completing previous ones. I appreciate those tangential concerns, but those are different business topics that he may have set the official board's thread up for.

Just adding something. Honestly, I think Zyloh also may have made a mistake there, although definitely more of a finger slap thing. Don't air corporate dirty laundry in public. It's also a bit unprofessional. But that pales in comparison to someone releasing internal documents, discussions etc. to anyone without permission. In my industry, that can be not just job ending, it can result in the end of a career - and it doesn't matter who you are in the company.

Leaks are bad, info covered by NDA leaking is very bad.. the law doesn't care if it's a real spaceship or an internet spaceship, the contract is what matters.

Zyloh persists in bringing a human perspective to his communication, and I appreciate that. I think he choose to express this because many backers will connect with the idea of the selfish person F*ing things up. I am also CERTAIN his response didn't come off-the-cuff; it would have been vetted by counsel given that this is a legal matter that may or may not have resulted in disciplinary action to the leaker.

I would never advocate somebody sharing proprietary data, etc. That CIG employee should not have done that.

That's a CIG and Employee issue. None of my business.

Consuming 'Leaked' information? This is a bit more nuanced from my perspective. Star Citizen employs a unique business model. It is crowd funded (minus a minor stake by outside investors). I imagine those investors, who expect a return, have far more visibility into the game's development than we, as donors. I think that is a mistake by CIG. Yes, the internet is full of trolls and social uproar. That does not mean CIG should continue the trend of NOT sharing information. They should endeavor to be as transparent as possible and treat the community nearly as well as investors. They use to be much, much more transparent. CIG is becoming less transparent over time.

I think Zyloh's post is an example of this trend towards less transparency. Last year they joked about the 400i and presented the invisible ship for April Fool's Day. It seems this sort of levity is gone.

I hope CIG will treat us more like investors and improve transparency. Lastly, all leaks should be considered fuel for theory crafting and not the final product. I would think that would go unsaid .... watch leaks at your own peril. :)

PS. I'll watch the video after work. I may edit this post. :)

I just had a comment removed from the forums citing the fact that Zyloh talks about a "leaked concept" that was not being pursued in development any more that turned out to be an actual ship and being released as the RSI Galaxy? I don't understand why (since Zyloh went on record) about it being leaked irresponsibly by a CIG employee. Can someone explain why a factual statement is considered against the TOS to me?

Zyloh's comment was in a thread about the Cutter, which featured details (and an image) of a concepted "Exploration" variant with 2 SCU cargo, food machine, etc.

Some people decided that Zyloh's comment had no connection to the cutter thread in which it was posted, and decided it must be about a completely different ship (Galaxy) which had also leaked at around the same time, then ran with that, making assumptions that were incorrect but treating them as fact.

If Zyloh had been concerned about a "leaked concept" in relation to the Galaxy, the comment that they left would not have been in a Cutter thread, but rather in a Galaxy thread.

Haha I just came off a 24hr ban for 'wrong think' on Spectrum...irony..given that the individual who banned me was once part of TEST.
