Yes, it can repair fighters. From the ship description page:

"The Polaris includes the facilities to repair, rearm and refuel a single fighter, light bomber or support ship." From this I would presume it can repair only one ship at a time, but certainly it can repair. It will be very interesting to see if it can store all the various fighter components for use by those who land.

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/ships/polaris/RSI-Polaris
According to CIG if it fits its all good. Also if you notice the hangar has dedicated spots for placing cargo and supplies to probably fuel and maintain the ship, so not sure how that would effect if they were 2.
A Polaris can repair, rearm and refuel a single fighter, but when it is used to hold 2 or 3 fighters, you maybe not have any room left for rearming and repairing materials. Also if you want to use the Polaris as a mobile repair, rearm and refuel platform for multiple fighters, then you probably also must assemble a support fleet to hold and supply fuel, ammo and repairing materials to the Polaris.

Yes, this is why I continue to ask why people are thinking, and theorizing about how to use it as a lame carrier, when it has this other, more powerful use. My guess is for very limited actions it can refuel fighters off its own tanks and the cargo area should be sufficient to store fighter components so one can swap them out when needed, but for long duration, larger operations it seems likely to me one would always want a StarG on site. Could be the tanks are large enough for the Corvette to refuel a squadron several times and just have the tanker appear periodically to refuel the Corvette. The point is, you can fly your short haul craft off this ship. It will fix your ride, rearm it, refuel it, and gives you a bed to respawn in. Your fighter would not however necessarily be safe if left unattended when you are away. That seems to be tied to sleeping quarters so it will be interesting to find what happens with your Hornet if you go to sleep on the 'Vette. If your ship disappears when you go to sleep in any bed, then the beds on the 'Vette become that much more useful. Certainly CIG is drawing a large distinction between short range fighters and long range that include beds.

I am going to open a Pool Hall - just need someone to park a Beerfarer along side and we are in business - maybe someone wants park a repair shop near by - have beer and shoot pool while your ship is repaired. For those pilots that want to stay close to their ship while refueling and repair we have hanger for the RIGHT price :)

What would happen if you go asleep on your corvette while its fully crewed with 24 members from different time zones

We all know the Polaris is just a really hardened and aggressive race ship hauler.... some people transport their m50 or 350 in a hill series or a cruicible. Real men know the completion is gunning for them and transport their racing ship in the Polaris.....

Honest question on this ship as I'm watching the STLYoungblood updated Polaris video. Besides the size and extra crew stations (and ability to transport a racer) why spend the money on the Polaris over multiple talis as a capital class killer with torps? Thoughts?

For the anti-fighter capability, as well as the speed. This thing is made for battle. The tali is made for bombing. My .02 cents anyways. I like it, but it's not worth if for me, that's for sure.

It feels like they made the polaris for a battle that can't exist. 28 torpedoes? How many Idris do they think will be in one place at the same time? Even if it was just Polaris on Polaris action, how big of a space battle do they expect to have in the game?

99% of the time, I can see small fleet battles. I can see a handful of ships fighting a handful of ships. I can see a few connies or a tali getting into it. I can even see small point control fights turning into a rather large org vs. org 50 ship fight. It will be epic. It will also require nowhere near 28 torpedoes. 28 torpedoes is for multiple capital ship vs multiple capital ship. How many times is that actually going to happen? Are their servers even going to be able to handle 6+ capital ships plus accoutrements?

Saying that, there are more reasons than that for me that prevent me from purchasing it. The first and biggest of these is saving some fun for myself. I want to have something to work for once this game comes out. If I already own everything I want, what is there to work towards? I was tempted for a minute for the LTI, but I really do want leave some carrots dangling out there.

I occasionally worry that this funding model may be doing nothing more than allowing backers to sabotage their own experience on release. I have seen it in other monetized games. These games allow you to shortcut your way to good gear/equipment with real money. This leads to tons of players buying into the game, paying tons of cash to gear up, then leaving a couple months after due to boredom. It makes me wonder how many of the high dollar backers will be left a year after SC is released.

But why the torpedos though. As it stands, without torpedos, it would make a great anti fighter platform protecting capital ships and cargo fleets from that a-wing making that suicide run to a shield generator.

Same idea as above. Torpedoes (correct me if I'm wrong) in SC are still physical in that they are poor against shields. You would need to soften the shields up for the torpedoes to be effective, right? So we use the turrets to soften the target? Or the rail guns of the heavier ships (idris) to weaken the shields... so the Polaris can get the kill shot?

Space Doritos..... so far I see some cool ranch with these torpedoes but the sweet chili is in them turrets!

Yesterday evening I watched a Polaris Q&A by a local Star Citizen group (C.R.A.S.H.), and...I didn't know if I should now cry or laugh or at least drink a litre of Vodka for curing the brain pain...there REALLY are German dumb shits who are honestly asking, how many NPC you need to operate the Polaris effectively as a singleplayer. I mean: who is asking those questions?? A capital ship, even a small one...as a single player...really....?

By the way, heres the reaction of the team:

:D :D :D

...and I *bet* that those people, who are asking questions like this, have already burned their banking account for buying the Polaris

I believe an Idris can take more punishment than you think. Remember that current small fighters can have wings shot off or landing gear destroyed and still hobble away.

Also, unloading 28 torpedoes may be overkill for an Idris anyways, but it'd take FAR too long to fire all those off. They are 4 at a time, but you still have to have players reload them before the next shot, so that's what gives it the "Boom n' Zoom" quality.

An Idris is gigantic. Easily 4 times the size of anything we have in game at the moment. 4 torpedoes aren't going to destroy it. 12 might do a decent job of disabling systems. I feel as if we'll need a few Polaris and Retaliator Bombers working together to take one out in any decent amount of time.

Remember, space battles are supposed to be epic drawn out events, much like Capitol ship warfare in Return of the Jedi. Imagine if you spent all that money (or time in game) to get an Idris and it died within 2 minutes to a few torpedoes?

Also, what about a Javelin? Or a Bengal Carrier? These ships are meant to take a beating.

Here is how it works...

Capital ships are capital ships because cig says so. It doesnt matter what your game experience says or what RL is. CIG owns the game CIG makes the rules.

You get the polaris because it is what you want. If you need to be convinced to buy a ship after reviewing all information provided, you probably dont need it.

I have my doubts whether anyone needs a polaris (aren't all the expensive ships trophy ships?), that being said hopefully Test will be find a use!

Yes I have one and no I do not know what I will do with it very much down to it being for large group activities rather than me popping down to big bennies for lunch in it. If I was gonna name a ship this one would be "Remorse" but hopefully the game will come along for the ship.

I don't think you need to worry about that. The day that they pre-released the Polaris for subscribers and concierges, they made 1.5 million dollars. That means that a very large amount of them sold immediately. I would say at least 2,000 of them on that first day and probably at least 2,500 total after the citizencon sales. There will be enough polaris owners in the game to ensure that SC grows to accommodate them. This has been a VERY profitable ship for them so I doubt they will leave you hanging.

If anything, this proves the direction the backers are looking at. With that many sales, there are a ton of people that are highly interested in the large scale ship battles. I know that CIG has been looking at increasing the player cap per instance, but this really puts the pressure on to increase it by a large degree. With this many Polaris' (Polarises, Polarisi, Polarisess'...) out there, they need to be looking at a player cap of at least a couple hundred. They will need to allow for a few Idris' (Idrises, Idrisi... ffs) a Javelin, and a handful of Polarissess's with the necessary players to man them and their escort ships.

I am actually really excited about where this is heading.

Great question. I have no idea. One supposes this involves who can have "permissions" assigned for a ship and how that works, but no news on this yet.

Besides the size and extra crew stations. . .why spend the money on the Polaris over multiple talis as a capital class killer with torps? Thoughts?
Talis don't include tactical operations stations, so probably cannot have the complete picture in a complex battle. They don't even have a bridge and a single person cockpit is no way to share information.

If you notice in the vid, the Polaris has a 3D tactical display that everyone on the bridge has access to, which is the kind of information one needs in a real battle. When you don't have good information, this is when friendly fire incidents occur. Command ships have access to enhanced intel and data management. It may seem like an oxymoron, but really there is such a thing as "military intelligence" and this is vital in real battle situations.

For the anti-fighter capability, as well as the speed. This thing is made for battle. The tali is made for bombing. My .02 cents anyways. I like it, but it's not worth if for me, that's for sure.
But why the torpedoes though. . .Torpedoes (correct me if I'm wrong) in SC are still physical in that they are poor against shields.
CIG is on record that there are going to be missiles and torpedoes that specialize in ripping down shields. Just remember that some ships include active systems that destroy torps in fight, so it's not like they will always work, even when countermeasures are defeated. In many situations you could only hit with one out of six torps. 28 is not too many to carry.

Watched some twitch last night and stumbled across a group in chat suggesting using the Polaris as a bounty hunter / general big game hunter of ships for sport. Maybe a hunting contest.
Not sure what to say about that...
CIG needs to give people a common enemy to fight soon or we will just feed on each other.... aka griefing. Welcome to the human race.
On the other hand.... More yummy scraps for my Reclaimer. I guess I have a little human nature in me as well.

I have one word for you that could, if in the plan at CIG, justify the Polaris as a semi-regular driver: Privateering.

UEE could issue Letters of Marque and Reprisal for pirate activity AND anti-Vanduul operations with rewards being paid. Large corporations, individual planets and systems, and of course larger Org's could do the same/similar as well.

I am thinking of naming my WarChip the ISS Marque and Reprisal.
