Hitting Austin next week. Who wants to get together for a drink?

As the subject says. We can sit and chat about Star Citizen, or talk about how the Texas Rangers have been sucking at baseball.

Anywhere in downtown Austin may be good, but until I arrive in town, I'll have no clue of the lay of the city.

@CaptainRichard, I hope you're still around by the time I land. We should get together for a drink or two. :)

I'm jealous. Lived in ATX for a few years and had a blast there long ago. Look up Stardust Cafe. It was a terrific burger joint that was open 24 hours near downtown.

The "canal" do you mean Lady Bird Lake? If so there are lots of bars just North of there.

If you want the younger crowd you can hit Sixth Street. If your alone I wouldn't stay down there to late by yourself it can get rough late at night.
Just south of 6th street on 3rd through 5th you will start finding more bars that have a bit more mature crowd. Any way that was the layout when I was younger and went down there more often.

There are other areas that are cool to I just don't know downtown as well as I used to.

If you like live music, Red River Street had a bunch of metal and guitar rock bars. South Congress used to be a lower budget yet hip (not hipster, just hip) neighborhood, but prices were inflating when I was there so maybe not so much anymore. Don't get stuck on the freeway near downtown when the bars close, you can get stuck for hours on end if not out right killed.
For the life of me, I can't remember where or what it was called but there was a bar that held regular "chicken shit bingo" nights. Put your money on a number, release a chicken and if it poops on your number, you win. Ridiculous, I know, but a lot of fun with friendly people.

You're thinking of San Antonio. It'sn a long time since I went to school in Austin but if I remember correctly, most of the good bars and restaurants are on 6th St. If you come to San Antonio, I'll take you out for a beer!

I went to the Recess arcade bar last night and almost, almost, got plastered. I did keep enough wits about myself to not overdo it to the point where it would be impossible for me to get back to the hostel.

As a bar, it's good and offers enough distractions. Downside? Bathroom is on the lower end of the shit-scale.

Last time I crawled Austin,was with my medical fraternity. We hit 6th street with an IV going in one side (to keep us hydrated and to prevent hangovers) and a Texas Special (external catheter) so we wouldn't have to stop to pee. We drank all night and woke up feeling great. This wasn't your usual fraternity, more like animal house. Had a great time! And, the chicks loved it! Is he Recess Arcade across from campus? See if you can visit the Austin SC office!

I have an appointment for the visit at cig on Thursday. BUT because it's 100 bucks round trip by taxi I'm going to rent a bicycle and go there.

You can blame the city for voting proposition 1, which forced uber and Lyft to cease operations in the area.
