Just pop into cruise and uncouple. Then jump out the back and have a buddy pick you up while the Test ground forces await impact. They go in and mop up what's left.

Now we have just invented fire missions. :)

I actually see the FPS fight as something that air support would be a big help...even if it's just a merlin off a connie...also limits your risk if you get shot down.
