Too early to tell, but I imagine it will work something like that. Of course, navigators will need to have info on the coordinates they feed, so that's where exploration data comes in. Some people go out and explore and find important stuff, they sell that info to navigators, who fill their maps and keep their space-GPS updated.

Probably point in the way of the target, blow into the quantum drive cartridges, turn the ship computer on and off and most importantly turn location settings on.

Tl;dr no clue, hasn't really been discussed

So the navigator will be the IT Guy? Will they also be responsible for emailing for help in the event of a fire?

Will navigators be able to set waypoints for the pilot so they can jump to precise locations?

What other things will navigators be able to contribute in a multi-crew scenario?
My preference would be for the navigator to be the pilot also. I just want to be the captain, to be able to say "nav, get us out of here!", and nav hits the gas to a predetermined safe point, or points, and the escorts already know were to rendezvous with us. Simply being the captain, I can get the big picture and make decisions on tactics, engineering, defense, repelling boarders and such.

Here's what I imagine a navigator will be in charge of:

Plotting your route (duh)
Planning fuel usage and refueling requirements for said route
Review data such as recent Law enforcement reports on outlaw activity along your route to know where to avoid (I strongly believe this will be a thing)
Devise alternate routes and escape plans (Rendezvous points and whatnot)
When in combat, they keep an eye on the scanners and perhaps aid with missile targeting
(They have access to the sensor output right in front of them)
When plotting a new jump point, they will act as "co-pilot" calling out the turns ahead using some sort of instrument

THEORYCRAFTING can be fun, but It'S important to temper your expectations. or else you'll have a BAD time.
