I just got a cutlass black. I like the versatility and I look forward to seeing the rework fleshed out. Honestly though, it's probably going in the melt as soon as I find out I can put a dragonfly in the back of my DUR. That said, if I can put a comparable sensor package in the cutlass, I'll drop the DUR in the pot instead. I like versatility, but not redundancy. I guess I'll just have to wait until 3.0 brings me dragonflies to TEST before I can decide for sure. Hopefully the new Cutty is out by then.
Which it's why I'll have both the Warden with BUKs and the Cutty. And maybe a Redeemer too.
Because you can't have enough pirate ships. Haha
I have a Blue. I kinda want a Black too, just in case there happens to be something the black can do that Blue can't. I may be over thinking again. Haha
Sigh....I gave up my Death Penguin (Avenger) and got a Cutty Black. I am keeping my DUR, it will be my Explorer/Merchant ship and keeping the Prospector, cause, ya know, mining and all. The Cutty will be used more along the lines of long range escort/material acquisition. So all my ships keep their own versatility.

Simple solution: buy a couple of paint cans.
Now, seriously speaking (or at least tryin' to), I'd say you'd be better with a Black. As far as I understand, the Blue's strong points should be interdiction (whatever that'll mean) and probably E-WAR equipment. Now, since they keep pushin' the Black as a pirate ship, I'm pretty sure you'll be able to mount the exact same systems on it too, with little costs and trouble.
The only thing that may be specific to the Blue are the prisoner cells, but on the other hand they take a lot of space, so you probably won't be able to fit much else inside, and also you most likely won't have so many exits. Considering the quality of the prison food and the fact that you're carrying them live and conscious, you'll want them fast exits when they'll start experiencing stomachaches.
Honestly, the only use I'd find for the Blue would be to smuggle pirates in civilized space, by passin' them as bounties due to be cashed in. Depending on my financial status, I might even do that. Easy bounty huntin'.
Smart man. Much smarter than I was when I started out. You have all your hard covered with a few manageable ships. I envy you.
I now have too much equity and too many ships, and am sitting here wishing I could have just 4 or 5. Sigh.
With the general modularity of Drake, I just assumed I'd be able to take out the prisoner cells and take full advantage of the bigger shields and power plant of the blue.

Damn! I never look at those things. If it can fly, shoot and fit a moonshine distillery inside, it's good enough for me.
Indeed the Blue may be the only one that can mount higher size shields. Oh well, since it's Drake, I guess I'll duct tape an additional shield generator on the back of my Black.

I have an LTI Avenger Warlock(or as I call it around this time of year, an Avenger Christmas tree ornament), should I CCU it to a Cutlass Black? Unless I get some information on the proper usage of this contraption, it's about as useful as mammary glands on a cold-blooded aquatic organism. Hit the button after charging it up, get a cool noise, and poof!...Avenger Christmas tree ornament! A Cutlass Black on the other hand! Pilot, co-pilot/turret gunner, 2 guys in back sharing quality time with a Dragonfly, all wrapped up in a package topped off with a pant load of S3 guns! I could find a use for that! Should I do it???

Well, the Warlock is a special ship, so...many would say to keep it. And they may be right. It's difficult to compare these two ships, as they're completely different: the Warlock has a weapon no other ship has, while the Cutlass would provide a lot of variation to your gameplay.
In the end, I'd say it comes down to how much you'd like using it and how much you'd really use it in the game. I also own a Warlock, but I will CCU it into something else, simply because it doesn't have a place in my usual play schedule. It's an interesting ship and the it makes a nice lights show, but it's goin' to rot in my hangar if I keep it.

I did it, but it didn't work out quite as I had planned. Turns out the Warlock wasn't a standalone, AND it wasn't LTI(only three months), but it was part of a pre-split package so I kind of wanted to keep it. Digging a little farther into my buy backs though, I found an old Cutlass Black pre-split package, so I melted the Warlock package and bought back the Cutlass Black pre-split package! So, for $15, I got what I wanted with more startup UEC and 3 extra months of insurance. #WINNING!

Why would you attack fighters as a pirate? Fighters don't carry loot.
You can always sell some of them?
You'll probably be able to strap better shields on the Black, like @Cherokeedog suggested.
