What do you guys think about the current crop of (sentient, space faring) alien races that all seem to follow the Star Trek style of humanoid shaped beings?
Would you like to see more variety in these matters? Maybe not to the extents of complete amorphous blobs, but there have been quite a few examples before of non-humanoid beings in sci-fi.
Although that said, what sort of technological (both for CIG and lore-wise) hurdles would such a race have to overcome to get to the same technological level as us?
