Another ship thread! Because we all have a problem.

With the recent news that all our 0 dollar CCUs will be disappearing over the next while, I find that my plan to switch from Reclaimer to Carrack - in an effort to decide what $350 ship I want at launch - is pretty much kaput. So I need to decide now which ship I will have at launch. Which sucks. Because I hate decisions.

Also, what do I do with all these other CCUs that are now worth money? Like all these Redeemer to BMM CCUs? Any of you beautiful sexy TESTies need ships before these CCUs are gone forever?

Help me TEST, you're my only hope!

Let the shitposting begin.

Reclaimer will probably make you money sooner and at a more steady pace. Carrack is most just get out there and find stuff for the Reclaimers and Orions of the world to rip apart/mine.

Personally I went Reclaimer because it has a much larger cargo for goods and salvage.

I do love them both. But do I need both. The Reclaimer has so much potential. So so much.

But exploring the stars...

I *could* have both right now for next to nothing, as I have a few Redeemer to BMM CCUs. But do I want two large ships? I already have a Cat as well.

Gaaaaaaa, ships are hard!

I'm skipping on the Reclaimer (and nabbed the Carrack) because my focus is on exploring and selling info. I have smaller ships for mining/salvage since my play style doesn't really warrant that much of an investment in salvaging.

If it makes sense for what you want your focus to be, then go for it. Whatever "it" is.

But damn, that Reclaimer is massssivvee

I think of them both as kind of "treasure hunter" boats. The Reclaimer more focused on eating treasure (more than even finding it, I suppose), and the Carrack more versatile in where, space or planet, it can find treasure (but can't outright eat the treasure).

I think between them, and maybe just because we're getting all the teasers, I'd prefer the Reclaimer. Massive, so ugly it's pretty, and big-ass claw that has multiple claws on it. Evil pirate recycling service (Aegis is the actual pirate brand but no one admits it).

But that may change when we start seeing glimpses of the Carrack. Can go further, almost definitely faster, likely fights better, and has probably upper-tier scout snub and upper-tier rover. Huge Carrack fan base, so going to have to be a crowd pleaser.

I vote beer.

I had Digital Carrack LTI starterpack, I just upgraded that with CCU to Reclaimer LTI starterpack using 0$CCU I hade saved for a rainy day..
And reason I did this is simple*.. When it come to the other 0$CCU I just look at them as they are worth 0 if can't find a use for them before they parish.
I mean I buy ships to please me not others, right ;)

*Reason for CCU Carrack to Reclamier if you have the 0$CCU:
Carrack is not due to be finished until next year and the Recalaimer is due to be finished just late - past summer...
So I get the Reclaimer this year, not long from now wile the Carrack is still not even started on if you check the schedule here ;)

Just my two cents :nerd:

I get the dilemmas. I have them myself, every day actually. At the moment I have the BMM but im thinking about the Carrack and Reclaimer aswell and can't decide, leaning towards the Carrack though. I guess you want to ask yourself what you would find most fun In the beginning of PU.

I think the Reclaimer is very specialized and the Carrack is more versatile despite it's focus on exploration. Because most of the game mechanics have yet to be developed there is no telling what professions you will find entertaining. Based on that I think you would be better off to start in a Carrack because in my opinion it can fill a bigger variety of jobs. This is a good way to try out the many roles that the Universe will offer and get some experience in several professions while earning money for the Reclaimer.

I do think that the Reclaimer has more "steady earning potential" so you might be able to save $$ up quicker to get a Carrack ingame if you decide to go that way - but that's just a wild guess. I don't think you will go wrong with either ship.

Carrack all the way, "to boldly go", Its your exploration ship, She can haul a bit of cargo and take you to the stars you see on a cloudless night. you can stick around in local space and salvage other people junk if you want. But as for me, I wont go quietly into the night. We were born to get out here. Explore the unknown, Find strange new lands, plot new jump points, find potential lost civilizations, The time to venture out is now. See the verse on rock at a time.

By other 350 ship, do you mean the 350r?

Owl, searching for salvage IS exploration. What do you want to do for expliration? Bring back data from some asteroid you found (Carrack) or bring back new jump point data (Carrack)? Or do you want to bring back a few weapons and a hull full of scrap from a ship you found crashed on a planet or some components that were freed from a wreck floating outside an abandoned station?

The Reclaimer has a long range jump drive. It's meant to just go out there. If you read the old Reclaimer docs, you'll see that CIG says explorers take the Reclaimer too. It's just a treasure hunting type of exploration and not a data gathering one.

Carrack is akin to a mini Capital in which its self sufficient and has everything needed for long journeys. Its 1000 scu of space puts it in a nice little niche that enables it to carry cargo to distant places without needing to refuel. If you like playing with SC stocks you could buy and sell stuff. Buy some water and sell it on a distant desert planet and beat the competition there that normally would need to stop and refuel while you just zip straight to the buyer. Its a ship that generally would not be expected to have any escorts and conduct business solo.

Reclaimer has a potential to make lots of money, however any debris field is going to be a warzone and so you are going to need support from both chasing away the competition and defending the stash. You are also going to need to make friends with a lot of people from different fields but mainly explorers that can give you the heads up on derelicts floating in space or if we find Montoya's hidden Bengal.

I dissagree about the warzone part. Debris won't always be in a warzone. There's that whole system that's just a junk yard, ship debris in asteroids, abandoned facility parking, planet wrecks, and more.

Combat zones just happen to have the freshest meat, not that Owl will need to worry about combat since he's in IRS.

The Reclaimer should be finished by Fall. The Carrack will be another year. Seems an easy choice to me. Fly the Reclaimer now and wait to see if you want the Carrack instead of or in addition to, a year from now.

It really depends much more who you are gaming with than what ship you all choose to fly. It is always possible to find someone who needs good crew. IMHO, all good gaming groups are going to be at least 5-7 people who regularly play at the same time, and their interests will vary over time. Make some money scraping this month, do some exploring next month, kill some Vanduul the month after that. Probably most people will try half dozen things before they find what they love. You could spend 6 months building a fortune with a Reclaimer before you found you hated it, then put all that money into an expedition into Krell space, requiring half dozen multi-crew ships.
